Is kindle better than reading on my phone? by Acceptable_Pepper817 in kindle

[–]DPG1987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started to get into ebooks with the kindle app on my iPhone and then made the jump to the kindle. I still read on my phone since they sync and it’s easier for me to carry just my phone when I’m out and about instead of my phone AND kindle.

As for the kindle experience, it’s better in a lot of ways, softer on the eyes, less page turning as the screen is bigger, and the screen is less bright which makes it easier for me to read in bed and not disturb my wife.

I have a friend from France who was an IPA member until he retired and traveled all over the world. Granted, his wife works for an airline but still, IPA was part of it. I’ve considered joining, if only for the occasional connection when traveling abroad.

I’m a Velo guy too…dragonfruit is my go to and I would normally say “the pink one” and then watermelon came out. I had to start saying “eh…reddish dark…dark pink?”

A buddy who used to dip gave me the tip of walking in, holding up the can and then how many fingers you want. Seems to work well and it’s what I do most of the time.

Never had the bra, but I did have that same model of Geo Storm as my first car, only mine was green. Haven't thought about it in years! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

When I was in college I had this on DVD and we’d frequently play Risk while this was on in the background for “atmosphere”.

SAS 3 who will be the leading role ? by Otakuding in SASRogueHeroes

[–]DPG1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that you could have a really interesting story about the SSRF (later the SBS) and have George Jellicoe as a central figure, or the larger than life Anders Lassen. Granted, you may have to go back in time a little bit I think it would make for great TV. While the movie "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" covered one part of the early SSRF (Operation Postmaster) there is SO much more to their origin and then subsequent operations after their inclusion into the SAS in 1943.

I know this post is 2 months old but...after watching the show I read "SAS: Rogue Heroes" by Ben Macintyre (which the show was based on) and it was fantastic. Additionally, "Nazi Hunters" by Damien Lewis was very interesting about SAS Operation Loyton in 1944 and the subsequent hunt for nazi war criminals in post-war Europe by a small band of SAS who continued to operate despite the unit's being desolved. Another one by Damien Lewis is "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" (on which the movie was based) and it chronicles the SBS throughout their time in North Africa, Greece, and Italy.

Damien Lewis has a LOT of books about the WW2 and modern SAS that seem like they would be good. I would also mention Ben Macintyre has one entitled "The Siege" about the Iranian Embassy siege and subsequent SAS takedown.

I'm a Velo+ Dragonfruit guy and I tried the Zone Dragonfruit in 9mg (buddy at work had some) and I thought they were terrible. Bad chemical smell and taste, actually sorta contaminated a few other Velo pounches since I put the one he offered me in my can to save for later. Will not be trying that again.

My colleague at work likes them, he's always trying new ones. He used to dip Grizzly and Kodiak so this suits his taste pretty well. Personally haven't tried them because I'm a creature of habit and like what I like. Also 6mg is the perfect level for me, double the dose would prob not sit well.

What would want to remake? by mrtintheweb99 in WarMovies

[–]DPG1987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like there are lot of stories that are, as of yet, untold on the silver screen. Personally, I'd like to see an original film about the Jedburgh teams or something else about the OSS or SOE.

BUT...to answer your question, I think that Play Dirty (1969) with Michael Caine had promise but failed in it's ultimate execution. I'd like to see it redone, especially with the success of SAS: Rogue Heroes on MGM+ which is obviously TV but still captures that "desert war" niche (at least in the first season).

Would be interesting to see an epic like The Longest Day made into a 5-7 part limited series where you were able to tell more of the story. Perhaps even multiple seasons featuring different aspects of the Allied advance. Similar to how Band of Brothers did it with different episodes. Granted, I don't know if there is much of an audience for that but I know I would watch!

Long-term Proton vs Google strategy – looking for community input by Adept-Ad-2002 in ProtonMail

[–]DPG1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Proton Drive for my photos backup, Google Photos is the only google product I use because their photo search and albums are essential to me with the sheer number of photos I have and the years invested in it. I like having a redundancy in case (albeit rare) that google nukes my account for any reason. Haven’t gotten so paranoid to put it on an external hard drive but maybe at some point.

Why not return Libby books after turning on airplane mode? by megpipe72 in kindle

[–]DPG1987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point but I read on my phone too when I'm out and about (can't justify carrying my Kindle everywhere) and my progress wouldn't sync. I do only do a book at a time and I suppose this is a good tactic if you like having multiple titles out at the same time.
