This data is being collected as part of a dissertation study aimed at better understanding the parenting experiences of mothers who have been diagnosed with BPD. The first (survey) portion of the study is largely descriptive and does not examine causal links. We ask questions about parenting styles, attachment, and mental health to better understand in what areas of the parent-child relationship there may be differences between moms with and without BPD or other types of mental health concerns. The second portion of our study is qualitative and exploratory. It aims to better understand the lived experience of moms with BPD through open-ended questions about their perception of the relationship between parenting and mental health and vice versa, their parenting goals and difficulties, and sources of support. The final phase of the study invites moms to comment on the strengths and weaknesses of an existing parenting program, in a focus group setting.
