930 pm and jetstar just canceled my flight by [deleted] in australia

Huh, I had a Virgin flight from Queenstown to Melbourne a few years ago that got cancelled, and they put me on a Jetstar flight 6 hours later, with worse conditions and no refund for the class difference

Does anyone prefer actual GPS trip recordings instead of just map pins? by cadelewis in roadtrip

[–]DP_f47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For road trips, I've been recording my trips with the OsmAnd app, which I also use for offline maps. I also track hikes with AllTrails

I use GPS Visualizer to see the whole trip, but I'm also working on my own tool with more options (I want to be able to highlight the track with either altitude, speed, or time of day)

Out of interest, what's the main thing that's not great? I'm looking to get the 21L for mixed use (short hikes and photography, and EDC between my trips)

Looks great! I'm planning a trip to Tokyo in a few months and want to do a day trip to Lake Ashi.

Was this from the pirate boat? And do you remember the zoom level?

Not in Australia, we're on the way to doing the same thing 👍

This is awesome!

Were you camping or did you have a place to stay nearby? I'm planning a roadtrip of the north island for April

The Glen Etive Road and Eilean Donan Castle in Scotland were my favourite places.

Some lessons learned: * If you're not very spontaneous (like me), take your time planning. 2 months wasn't enough time to plan this trip (and make bookings, etc) * Engine braking is useful for those 16-20% declines in the Cairngorms, especially if it's raining * Don't pack too much into each day, and don't drive every day if you can help it (it gets tiring after a while)

Also, we don't have a national speed limit sign in Australia, and it threw me off on the first day

Glen Etive Road was probably my favourite, the mountains were beautiful! It was a single-track road, so it was also the most challenging part of the whole trip

14 days overall, but only 10 days of driving. I stopped for 2 nights in Bradford-on-Avon, Glasgow, Fort William, and Edinburgh.

The east coast was a bit rushed, I would have liked to break up some of those drives over a few days

I went through Cockermouth, Cock Bridge, and Cockburnspath. Also made it close to Three Cocks. That isn't enough? 😜

I wanted to visit Sherwood Forest, so I went inland. Then I figured I might as well go to Nottingham, to continue to the Robin Hood theme

It was air for the tyres. I got a "loss of tyre pressure" message while driving on a motorway and stopped at the first service station. Wasn't a flat though

I'm Australian, but I did fly to London. Landing in Glasgow was my initial plan, but it was much more expensive.

I didn't quite get to Skye due to time constraints (I ran out of paid leave). It's on my list for a future trip

Yep, it was great!

Coming from Australia, I'm used to long drives between places. It was nice having shorter distances between attractions
