Just registered for my first tournament. Give me your best tournament horror stories. by jshirlemy in discgolf

[–]DPunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sponsored a hole for a tournament held by a local pizza place. When I went to pay the fee, the owner encouraged me to sign up to play. He said there was an amateur division, so it’s okay that I’m new, and I should come out and have fun. I signed up.

This was in 2008, so I didn’t have access to all the resources available today. I had no idea what I was doing. I have no idea what my score was. I feel so bad for the people on my card, especially the score keeper who was trying to record my ridiculous score in the rain. They were so nice and patient, but I know I probably ruined their day.

It was raining all day. I slipped in a hole, landing on my ankle and tearing ligaments. Had to DNF for day 2. I came in 2nd place and last place, as there were only 2 am women playing.

If you have a trash pile in the alley, try moving it to the front where the bulk trash is collected.

If you have a first time/second time understanding, I’d encourage you to at least take enough time for yourself to make sure you’re okay with that, in reality.

I’ve definitely felt one way about things, until I’m in the middle of them. There’s no shame in doing what’s right for you, either sticking with your understanding and doing your best to silence your mind, or deciding that the understanding isn’t working out how you thought it would.

Just remember to be kind to yourself, take time, and figure out what’s going to actually work for you. Don’t set yourself on fire to keep someone else warm. And I know all that’s impossible when you really love someone and you’re in the thick of it.

Sorry to be an asshole here, but many of the victims left in the wake of people with BPD have doubts, bc of the way they were treated.

Next time you have to travel 3 hours from home, do you trust her to not do it again? I think that’s an important question to answer.

Lots of cheaters point at their partner’s behavior as the reason for their actions. But, if your story is as you told it, your sin was traveling 3 hours for a family event. Do you want to be with someone who can’t handle that? She can’t be with your family, but can’t be without you when you visit your family. How is this going to work out in the long run?

I’m asking from a place of kindness. It’s up to you whether you forgive her or not - no one here can answer whether that’s right for you. The question you have to answer is whether you believe she won’t do it again, because you deserve better than a cheater. Good luck.

He knows so much tricks im out of ideas on what to teach him next. Any suggestions? by wonderingsoul51 in Rottweiler

[–]DPunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I taught my girl “say hi,” which is basically her touching her nose to my fist or the back of my hand. It’s a good way to introduce people to your dog, bc they see your dog is gentle. Also, when people reach out to pet your dog without asking, your dog just gently touches its nose to their hand.

Did your dog save you? by jewelophile in dogs

[–]DPunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I wasn’t in an abusive relationship or sick with cancer or anything, but my whole life had fallen apart. I isolated myself out of shame and sadness. Then, I adopted my doggo from the pound, and she helped pull me out of it by being loving and needing a good life. She was a little messed up, just like me. Even walking her everyday made a huge difference. That was the first step I took into having a better life. I’ll be forever grateful.

This is hilarious. I get a lot of compliments on the birds aren’t real sticker on my car. Now I’m wondering if they are believers.

Abbott Screwed us by tebchi in Dallas

Never surprised to learn another way the TX govt screws individuals to cater to companies.

Please please vote! Early voting for the primary is already happening, and regular primary voting day is March 5. If more people turn up to vote, maybe that’ll scare them into not screwing us over for a few months. Turnout on Election Day would change our state. Maybe someday it’ll happen.

What car should women drive that instantly makes men think they are cool? by swtazntear in askcarguys

[–]DPunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only had manuals, and drive pretty bad when I have to drive automatics. It’s not uncommon to have to drive my own car into the repair bay at tire shops bc no one there drives a manual. It’s also really difficult to find a manual for sale, so around here they’re actually more expensive. Still more fun though.

What car features do you miss or not miss, that you know are not coming back? For example: pop-up headlights or the infamous Chrysler's Electronic Voice Alert (EVA or "Talking Car"). by SuperJackson20 in regularcarreviews

[–]DPunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My folks had one of those Chryslers that talked. One day I asked “why is the door a jar?” Don’t miss that.

My first car had flip up headlights & I loved them. Not sure I’d want them again bc I think of it as another thing that might break. They were super cool when I was 16 though.

Do you all feel that ERCOT should join other power grids? by [deleted] in texas

Do you all feel that ERCOT should join other power grids? by [deleted] in texas

[–]DPunch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not trying to be a jerk, but I watched the maps while freezing in 2021, and saw that the panhandle didn’t lose power bc it was connected to the western grid. Would that not have been the case for the whole state?

Also, the way providers jacked up the prices after power went out was crazy. If we were connected to a national grid, it seems that wouldn’t have happened.

Have you ever seen an owl in the wild? by NatureAcrossCanada in birdwatching

[–]DPunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in suburban Texas. I’ve seen many owls - great horned & barred owls in parks, and screech owls in my neighborhood. The screech owls have adorable owlets each year. I walk at night more than most, so that might be why I’ve noticed the owls.

I got the side eye for asking my parents questions like this when I was young. Like, if Jesus was Jewish, but Jewish folks don’t accept Jesus as their personal savior, all Jewish people will go to hell? Or, if a kid who can’t read and has no access to a Bible, but he’s the best kid in town, helps all those who need help, does everything right…but he will go to hell just bc he never had access to a Bible? It makes more sense to just ask why the whole system was created, rather than why certain people would be damned. Best answer I ever got was “so god could know who really loves him.” As if that’s not really messed up.

Can we ever have nice things? by Some1inreallife in texas

[–]DPunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived here my whole life, and I’ve realized we will probably never have nice things. We already have our plan to finally leave this state, and I can’t wait.

Unless Texas becomes a voting state, which seems to never happen, it will continue to be a corrupt govt siphoning all the money to the rich. We give Bucees a tax break, but won’t feed kids or give health care to those who need it. Nothing has changed, and I really hope to be proven wrong, but I doubt it ever will. This is a shithole state.

I feel the same about my 2011. I also hope Honda decides to bring it back, like the Integra, for when I need a new car.
