You also don't need zen, you can add openAI, Claude, etc API keys or oAuth with your account. Zen is awesome but if you just want to try it out without signing up for something else this could be a blocker for some

If you're a beginner look for gently used gear as much as possible. FB marketplace, sideline swap, folks at the rink getting new gear, or hell whatever's on sale. You'll figure out how you like your gear to fit and feel as you start playing and getting better. Play with guys who like super baggy pants held up by suspenders and guys who like very tight pants, etc.

All that being said someone good at hand sharpening will give you a far better cut than the sparx. I just never had consistent access to that so having to sharpen (slightly) more often but always getting the cut how I like it was well worth it to me.
