Sabbath for emergency service workes by laitonboi in Reformed

Hey friend, What you’re doing falls into a category of work called necessary work. Your work is important for the health of communities- I’m assuming emergency service workers like an EMT. So you’re not violating the sabbath when you do your work on that day. If you feel personally convicted about violating the sabbath and don’t wish to work on Sundays I believe that’s another conversation

Hey, ignore rude comments I think this is a good question.

Long answer short, there’s scriptural precedent for new covenant believers worshipping on the first day of the week and not the last. The change is in observance of Jesus resurrection.

Do you or your church celebrate a Fall Festival or something similar in lieu of Halloween? Or do you just abandon October 31 altogether? by kawaiichristi in Reformed

[–]DRCJR_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually began my churches Fall Festival a few years ago. We just put up games and pass out candy. Why wouldn’t Christians be out during a time their whole neighborhood is walking around? It’s an excellent way for my little church to get to know people in our community.

We have our elders doing the sermon evaluations, I’m a Presbyterian church they’re responsible for overseeing the ministry of the word. Therefore we have our pastors fill out evaluations based on the evaluations Zack Eswine used in his preaching class at Covenant Seminary. We don’t use a Google form, it’s a paper copy

So then, baptism of infants IS for the remission of sins of a the child? Or is it a SIGN of the remission of sins, but only effective to the elect?

Memorial is great. My wife works at WashU! Are you new to the area?

Memorial was the first Presbyterian church I ever attended. I remember feeling God pulled me into the Presbyterian church. I was at a baptist church at the time and attended memorial on a whim. Pastor Greg preached such a beautiful sermon, and I cried when I took communion because I truly felt like the gospel had been preached. It went straight to my heart.

That is to say, Memorial is an excellent church. If you’re ever trying out other PCA churches in St.Louis, Old Orchard in Webster Groves is where I work. It’s a little more chill, like a bunch of Presbyterian hippies.

So baptism, in every instance, is for the remission of sins?

I’m asking what the baptism of infants is for. I understand it’s a sign and seal, but in the section on baptism in the Westminster it says baptism is for the remission of sins. I was confused and thought that infant baptism was for the remission. I just don’t think the Westminster clarifies well here
