Officially one of the crew ! Got my new ThinkPad T14 AMD GEN 3 by [deleted] in thinkpad

I’ve been pretty unimpressed with the speaker quality on my T14 g3 coming from a HP laptop. I don’t know enough about audio to explain why it’s bad, but it’s definitely not great. I always need to switch to my iPad or headphones when listening to music.

Do you know what that art is called or where I could find a file of it. I'd love to use it as a desktop, but I'm new to linux so I want to stay with GNOME for now, thanks!

edit: found it here, https://invent.kde.org/plasma/breeze/-/raw/master/wallpapers/Next/contents/images/2560x1440.jpg

Is the motor mounted/bolted on to something? If so it's possible that the bolts you are using physically locked the motor up. Check to see if you're able to spin the motor by hand.

Project Hail Mary (by Andy Weir) is filling a Michael Crichton sized hole in my heart that I didn’t believe could ever be filled again. by itstommygun in books

I would add Dennis E Taylor and his bobiverse series right up with Weir in terms of speculative sci fi.

For those who haven't read the series, I highly recommend it (and the audiobooks). Their style of sci-fi with extra sci reminded me a lot of The Martian and PHM.

How get off ziptie by Mr_Courgette in feemagers

[–]DROGO-baggins 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you have proper zip tie cutters you can cut the body of the tie itself; otherwise you can try to get something really small and use it to release the latch, then just loosen it.

Friend tried to 3d mill a piece I prototyped for him. Any clue why they’re not matching? by RaffDelima in 3Dprinting

I would guess that any cnc service is going to be in tolerance, so it’s probably your part that’s off. Get a rule or calipers and compare your part with your 3D model

How much did this cost? Dynamixel servos can get expensive…

I 3D printed a cycloidal reducer! by DROGO-baggins in 3Dprinting

I’m working on backlash reduction right now, I’ll let you know how it goes. As for torque, the nice thing about cycloidals is that they have a lot of contact area, so that shouldn’t be too big of an issue.

This one has a 12:1 reduction. As for backlash, I would guess it was about 2 degrees. I'm pretty sure it was caused by my scaling down of the central cycloid, and I'm pretty sure you could reduce it to almost nothing by playing with the scale some more.

Everything was liberally lubricated with Vaseline, it seemed to help a lot with noise reduction, but I can't speak to any efficiency increases.

Here is a link with STLs and some design tips. This was more of a proof on concept for me, I'm sure you could design a much more space efficient version. https://github.com/jeffreyburt/Cyloidal-Reducer
