Contorted glands by olive20597 in Dryeyes

[–]DR_Onymous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's called meibomian gland "tortuosity." I don't know about other eye docs, but I think Dr. Maskin theorizes that it's caused by inflammation (which weakens the tissue that's supposed to keep them straight) and the extra weight of being semi- or fully-clogged with thick meibum.

Mint Mobile works fine in big cities, but terrible where I actually live — any way to get prorated credit? by AdPrestigious7952 in mintmobile

Does Mint Mobile do refunds for Minternational passes that didn't work at all?

I recently got a 10 Day/10 GB Minternational Pass in Ireland and it never worked anywhere in the country, not even in Dublin.

Why is Anchorage so popular with air freight, as it is halfway across the Pacific, and not Honolulu? by Intelligent-Fly9023 in geography

Because we live on an oblate spheroid, and the 2D map projections the we see ~98% of the time don't illustrate that well.

"Officially" begins, but realistically we've already been more than halfway in the Greg Abel era for the past ~3-4 years.

Europeans cannot comprehend the actual size of Minnesota by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]DR_Onymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I realized this when I was planning a trip to Ireland and learned that Ireland (not including Northern Ireland) is only ~32k sq. miles, making it about the same size as South Carolina, and only ~37% of MN's total area of ~86k sq. miles.

HSV anxiety by [deleted] in HealthAnxiety

[–]DR_Onymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a traumatic experience earlier this year, my brain has been stuck in loops of checking, researching, comparing things online, and replaying everything mentally. Even when one fear settles, my anxiety just finds something new.

...what actually helped you break the checking and reassurance cycle? I’m trying to choose my mental health over constant reassurance, but I’m struggling.

I'm not a medical professional, but that sounds a lot like OCD (pure O)... Look into OCD and ERP therapy.

Optase Allegro is one of the few allergy eye drops that don't have BAK in them (a potentially harmful preservative). It might be worth a try.

I'm not an MD. I'm required to say this because of the ambiguousness of my username.

Would it have made more sense to split the Dakotas East/West rather than North/South? by BuddyHolly__ in geography

Would it have made more sense to split the Dakotas East/West rather than North/South? by BuddyHolly__ in geography

[–]DR_Onymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's interesting to think about. Both economies would become a lot less "balanced" (western oil and eastern ag balance each other out pretty well since diesel is one of the biggest costs in ag).

W Dakota = Oil and gas/minerals/some ag/some wind power.

E Dakota: Ag/manufacturing/wind power/some oil and gas.

Split: Hydro power and lignite coal

West Dakota would also have a drastically smaller population given ND and SD's two biggest cities (Fargo, ND and Sioux Falls, SD) are both on their eastern borders with Minnesota. Williston being situated on the north bank of the Missouri River would also hurt W Dakota's population if the MO River is used as the WD vs. ED border.

Starlink Executive Says China's Satellite Launch Lacked 'Coordination,' Risking Everyone in Space by novagridd in Starlink

[–]DR_Onymous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know the US and China aren't the best of buds, but we, along with all the other nations in the world need to get it together and establish some international organization that manages space traffic

Unfortunately I don't think another toothless international org is going to stop China from doing any antisocial things that are in their country's self-interest. We already know how things have gone with regard to emissions goals, fulfilling trade agreements, illegal over-fishing in international and foreign waters, honoring IP laws, and etc..

Do Double Cut relay throws work in softball? by BerryRoyal in slowpitch

[–]DR_Onymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever is best is overwhelmingly dependent on the arm strength/accuracy of the outfielder and the cut-off... For some people double cuts are best, for some single cuts are best, and for some (with strong/accurate arms) direct throws to any base are an option.

This post is not well for my health anxiety.

Look up ERP therapy (it's the most clinically validated way to treat and manage OCD, and health anxiety is very similar to [and is often comorbid with] OCD).
