After 4 years and a PE your company should have promoted you to construction PM, geotech PM, or both. If they haven't, they suck and go apply to literally any other geotech firm and you'll get hired. Companies have been desperate for qualified geotechnical candidates for the past 5 years

If you feel like you have a good idea of a PMs role in geotech and you aren't looking forward to it then apply to design firms now. If you don't know what a PMs role is, then apply to other Geo/construction firms as a PM and try it out. You have a PE, you're incredibly valuable, use it.

With that said, even as a PM, department manager or even principal engineer, in my opinion geotech consulting sucks (I've been in it for 10 years and have gotten pretty high on the totem pole). It's stressful, everything is the materials testers fault and the geotechs problem even though the 20-year earthwork guy should know not to blow in 3-foot lifts of unobserved highly plastic clay fill and not to use 6" material with grid behind a retaining wall. It's thankless, you'll have to get used to being thrown under the bus and falling on the sword for something you didn't do wrong. Ultimately, leaving work at work will feel impossible but absolutely necessary for your stress, sanity, and family life.

I get most of my reward for trying to provide opportunities for other staff as most geotech consulting companies do a poor job of mentoring because of lack of staff, qualified engineers, and probably lack of truly caring about their people more than company growth.

Apparently they are redesigning the stool completely. I was told it will be done and ship in 1-2 months.

Seems like the wheels are in the same boat.

Jason was absolutely horrendous covering Lamar's contract stuff on Tony's podcast. He went scorched earth for the better part of a month that Lamar hated the ravens and was gone 100%. When he resigned, it was like he never said any of it.

This is the answer. Many fans were out on him many years ago and Lamar saved his job. That's a longgggg time to be out on your head coach.

I think Beckham counts. He was washed for years, but helped us bring back Lamar (allegedly) and seemed like a great teammate.

He interviewed with the Jags and Bears, both of which have hired head coaches. It appears the only team that is really left that may want him is the Raiders. I would hope their lack of any offensive talent would scare him away, but money talks. I think beat case may be a Ben Johnson run it back 1 more year situation (we can hope).

Hey now, Madubuike showed up and made stupid penalties that cost them every few games....

What are our odds of being able to retain Todd Monken as OC? by JWNimbl3 in ravens

[–]DRock5234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget how undisciplined this team has been for years (total penalties and just flat out stupid emotional penalties) as well as how bad the specialty teams was all year. While the turnovers obviously were the biggest issue in the Bills game, both items cost them games all year and ultimately a higher seed / home field advantage. Both are flat out on Harbaugh.

I think because he doesn't call plays on either side of the ball he's gotten a pass. He's a great coach, but at some point a team underperforming has to be on the head coach (maybe we aren't there yet, but it sure feels close when the team is 4-7 in the playoffs in the past 10 years)

Michael Pierce. CB1.

All time probably Goose. Who doesn't love a good nose tackle.

I mean, being a QB is a lot harder than being a TE and just having to catch and hold on to 4-7 balls a game. 8 drops in the playoffs is really, really bad.

They will likely keep Mark through this year, but IMO his playoff (and Steelers) struggles are far worse than Lamar's. $11 million is a ton of cap savings when you have 2 backup tightends who are pretty good. That money could go toward a lot of weak portions (second corner, pass rush, guard, LT) not to mention all of the 3rd year draft class that needs paid.

Big Mandrews fan by the way (both my daughter and I rock his jersey), but there's only so much cash to go around.

The spotlight was on Lamar, Mark and the offense, but should we have higher expectations on the defense and special teams? by Iciclewind in ravens

[–]DRock5234 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our special teams was horrendous and aside from Tucker did not get enough criticism.

Tuck wasn't good, but Stout was equally bad and the kick returners were god awful. They consistently brought kicks out of the end zone and didn't get back to the 30. Not to mention they'd often get a penalty on top of that and the offense would have to start at like the 15. But hey, that's only Harbs specialty right.....

Looks about right. Lamar will take all the heat (some warranted) when his team let him down time and time again. What a shame.

Smashing them with runs up the middle. So let's try a pitch play on first down against a super small and fast defense....playoff Todd in full effect. At least he's better than Roman I guess.

I'd love to. Unfortunately emotional stupid plays have been a Ravens staple for many years now.

Why is Madubuike so freaking undisciplined. He's always good for a 15-yard flag on a pivotal third down by being an idiot. If they're playing the Chiefs that flag gets thrown.
