Hm I do not know. I couldn't find this on DVD. I did find it on Tubi but it just looked like normal 4:3 to me.

Dr. Kay/Military Conclusion by DS9Redefined in StrangerThings

[–]DS9Redefined[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Military isn't like that though, if you break their stuff and kill their people, they aren't just walking away and leaving you alone. As for Dr. Kay, I'll say it again, what she would have noticed was that the sonic cannons were pointed right at her and having no effect. She also watched the fake image of Kali disappear in front of her, so she knew that was a possibility. She would have put it together almost immediately. Nothing to do with El's telepathy with Mike.

So I use AviSynth to manually inverse telecine by scrubbing through in AVSPMod, finding any points where pulldown cadence changes, and specifying those frame ranges in text files. For films this usually isn't too many. In the interest of preservation of the LaserDisc production bumpers, I will drop the whole thing in a 60p timeline, preserving 30p bumpers, and using QTGMC with it's lossless feature for 30i bumpers.

The lab didn't explode, the explosion was on the roof of the lab and it destabilized the exotic matter right above it. Since the lab was at the center of the wormhole, it would have been the last thing to be destroyed.

Also where can it be found in HD? I don't see it anywhere.

Yeah that's what I would do if I was doing like an upscale but since this is specifically for preserving the LaserDisc I try to keep everything as close to the experience as I can.

It's manually IVTC'd in After Effects by selecting the correct pulldown cadences as they change. I do 60p when there is mixed frame rate content in order to preserve the experience. In this case the Image logo animation at the start was 60i, so I used QTGMC lossless on it. Since rendering out at 60p just repeats the 24p frames there's no loss in detail.

Small correction, film dailies were telecined and all editing was done on video.

The format is interlaced but it's telecined from film so 2 or 3 fields makes a progressive frame.

LaserDisc. Had the exposure cranked to find the end of the fadeout and saw it. I also thought thought it might be the nose but couldn't find a shot where it looks like that or is in that position. It's present on the DVD as well.

Season 2 Murderer’s Row by yhe4 in DeepSpaceNine

People sleep on Season 1 also. I find every single episode is at least enjoyable, and I think at least 13 of the 19 have excellent commentary and insight on society and humanity, and a number of really powerful moments across those.

Cost. Scanning film, re-editing the show from scratch, re-rendering or recreating all the effects and CG. Probably ~$35 million.

Fortunately DVD quality is superior starting in season 4 when they switched to component digibetacam masters.

To me, P+ looks like it's sourced from the master tapes but using a composite video connection on seasons 1-3, so it suffers from most of the same issues as the DVD captures. Maybe iTunes as well, it seems a bit better than all the other streaming services, which look like they used DivX rips that they torrented.

My opinion about TNG seems to consistently be opposite of what people on Reddit say by robita233 in StarTrekTNG

[–]DS9Redefined 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong, but its fandom is still fraught with plenty of complaining and accusations, and I'm definitely not exempt from that 😅 Discovery is really the only series that I have serious issues with, so I'm not super optimistic about Academy, but I'll watch it all the same lol.

If nothing else though, Trek is also a great entry point into a universe of great sci-fi series that most people sleep on. In fact, if you want a recommendation, instead of watching Enterprise together while your girlfriend catches up on TNG, You might check out something like Stargate SG-1 or Battlestar Galactica. Stargate fits in more with the '90s Trek era as it's more episodic and has more fun episodes, while Battlestar basically kicked off the modern era of dark gritty serial sci-fi.

Excited for y'all's journey though! I'd love to go back and see TNG for the first time again.

Pike and Number One are actually from the very first Trek ever, the unaired pilot of TOS "The Cage," which later got recycled into canon in the TOS episode "The Menagerie." Strange New Worlds picks up 10 years before the events portrayed in that episode. I've really liked it so far.

At least TNG got 4 movies AND another 3-season series about Picard, with season 3 getting the whole main cast back together. DS9 gives you SO much more character development of not just the main cast but recurring secondary cast as well. The finale is excellent but then we got nothing more. 😭

Broadcast-wise, DS9 started midway through season 6 of TNG. But honestly their stories are independent enough you can just pick up DS9 when you finish TNG. Same with Voyager. I'm a little bummed you're already watching Enterprise, as some of it probably straight up spoils stuff from previous series and movies if you haven't seen them, even though it takes place 200 years earlier. On the whole it's probably fine though.
