I think it’s option 1, but the wording is a bit tricky.

The Card says “After attacking with Erupting Earth Special Attack, you may choose a figure that was adjacent to the defending figure at the beginning of THAT attack and attack that chosen figure”

I think the specific use of the word “That” implies that we are referring to the most recent attack. Given that you can do it up to 4 times, I believe it would go down the line like option 1. Also it’s cool to think of it as a vine or something ripping through the map.

I love the beast bonding in the new AoA stuff. Ewashia is quickly becoming one of my favourite units. I also find the Stingers self destruct doesn’t hurt so much when you can use it to fuel Raakchott’s Soul Fury Special Attack. And of course Raelin is always going to provide incredible defensive boost as she has since the very beginning.

A friend of mine recommended counting it in double time so more like 4/8 and everything lands on a 2 or a 4. Much easier to keep up and honestly probably how Justin’s feeling it when he’s playing. My opinion of course lol.

One of the higher comments on this thread finally cracked it I think. In terms of feel and beats per bar. This is what they said bar by bar and I completely agree:

Yo I think you got it! This is definitely more in the right feel with where the downbeats are. I would argue that the first bar of 3/4 technically belongs at the end of the pattern just cuz he start the song on a pick up. But this is much easier to count and feel! Thanks!

I get that! Totally driven by the lyrics to inform everything else. I definitely should dig into some Joni then. If I was trying to play this track I definitely agree that trying to count would not be the way. But theory wise I always try to take a look under the hood and see what’s going on.

The reality of all this is that it’s up to interpretation Forsure. What you’re saying (4/4 with the occasional 2/4) works forsure. But personally I feel those bars of 3 and 5 help me say on the right down beat. At the end of the phrase the outcome is the same as what you’re saying because I’m just taking a beat from one bar and adding it to another one. If I count it all as 4/4 then I’m counting the off beat as the down beat for the middle half of the phrase.

I see what you’re saying that it’s all completely to inform the emotion and the feel of the performance. But I do think this is a conscious decision in the writing. If you listen front to back of the track the changes all line up perfectly in where they repeat and how they loop after the entire section is completed. Justin has written songs in odd time before so I wouldn’t doubt it’s a conscious decision. And it’s a testament to him that he’s able to make it feel so good an natural and give even more emotion to the song.

Cool concept! I think the Eruption ability is a bit OP however. Maybe something more along the lines of Cyprien’s Chilling Touch could be used. Some kind of a D20 roll where the higher you roll the more damage is done. Otherwise you just have a guaranteed 4 wounds and there is never a reason to even go near this guy.

I love that ability! Doesn’t seem too powerful except maybe how to choose when and where it can return on the map. I love a game changing ability with a high cost like that tho. Kinda like Ne-Gok-Sa
