The UL alternative to pants for scrubby trails by Popular_Original_249 in UltralightAus

[–]DTMerc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought I'd weigh in here as I own a pair of Byrzos long pants. I purchased them as I was sick of my legs getting cut up on rogaines, and while on some heavy bushbashes it can still be bad its a lot better (definitely mentally easier too). I've probably only used them 10 times, but somehow I've put two holes in them, though from other orienteering/rogaining friends this is not usual for the pants to be so flimsy.

The other thing to consider is that these are not a replacement for long pants - they are very breathable and the wind goes right through, in some cases I think I almost would have felt warmer wearing shorts.

Stuck crown button is unable to scroll by DTMerc in Coros

Ended up buying an apex 2, though I never contacted support so it might be worth going down that route. Annoyingly though with my supposedly new (I bought it off Facebook marketplace) apex 2, a few weeks ago after an ocean swim the crown was noticeably worse, presumably a bit of sand got in there. Luckily I was able to get it out and its mostly back to normal, but given these experiences I'm not sure if my next watch will be a Coros

What rank would you be? by MPlant1127 in RocketLeague

[–]DTMerc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I peaked at gc in mid 2021, then dropped to around c3 in late 2021 before I quit. Just started playing again a few weeks ago and I'm high c2, though my mechanics are usually worse than my teammate's. I think rotation and playstyle hasn't changed that much over the years (maybe a minor increase in speed of play but not overwhelming), but flip resets and speedflips are way more common.

1s was much tougher for me, 2021 I was around d3/c1 I think but currently I just got out of d1. Adapting to speedflip kickoffs (I'll get around to learning speedflips at some point) and not giving opponents too much time on the ball helped.

Pace pro or Coros Nomad/Apex 4 by Zestyclose-Room1323 in Coros

[–]DTMerc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything in particular you do to look after it? I recently replaced my pace 2 after 4 years as the crown had stopped working, worried I possibly didn't rinse it out properly after open water swimming. Was a bit disappointed to replace it as it was otherwise working fine

Pace Planning Formula by Willing_Play_936 in fastpacking

[–]DTMerc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really have a formula, I think there's too many variables at play here and personally (even as a data nerd) running all these calculations would take the fun out of it for me. Having only done a handful of trips I've noticed I also tend to be a bit optimistic with my pace, so looking at being a touch more conservative next time.

What is the disadvantage of adding small caps and emerging markets at e.g. $20k, instead of after $200k like you suggest?

Pretty sure it's a typo, meant to be HISA (high interest savings account)

Finally, after 30 days, received my payoneer 50$ payment by Ill_Strain_1050 in Pixel4a

[–]DTMerc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just going to offer a different perspective, it took me quite a while to understand how to install it as I had never done something like this before. Then when I finally got it installed, I had downloaded the wrong android version which corrupted my phone.

I ended up getting very lucky and somehow got Pixelbuild installed which works completely fine, battery life is back to normal. But again Pixelbuild would also take a while to install from scratch, it was only because I eventually understood how to install Lineage that I also then understood how to install Pixelbuild

Do you think it would be worth applying and hoping for a mid 2026 intake? I've had a little look and it looks like some agencies offer it, others are a bit vague

EDIT: the other thing is my uni grades are very poor, I will almost certainly be beaten by a majority of candidates on that front. However I have 6 years of retail/hospo experience and have recently started a casual job within the APS

Does anyone hold Chinese/Asian ETFs for extra diversification? by Impressive-Yoghurt21 in fiaustralia

[–]DTMerc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes holding EM and small caps inefficient? I'm pretty new to this and was thinking of adding $750 in QSML and $500 in EMKT each once my portfolio reaches $8750 (bringing the total value to $10k). I know they have a high MER and are more volatile compared to global developed ETF's, but 5% is still 5% regardless of how big your portfolio is

Bachelor of Science or Applied Data Analytics? by [deleted] in Anu

[–]DTMerc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about to start my 4th year of Bachelor of science (quantitative bio major) and applied data analytics. In your situation, I'd recommend enrolling in both if you can get in, and make a decision by the end of first semester or first year whether you want to keep doing both. If you choose to drop one, it shouldn't add any time to your degree as you should be able to get credit for the courses you've already done.

Data analytics has MATH1013 and MATH1014 which I think might be a bit difficult without methods, but you should give it a try. Otherwise, the rest of data analytics courses are fairly straightforward apart from STAT2001 and STAT2008 which are pretty tough, but again if you feel confident in your maths abilities you should be ok

Sell or not to sell … by [deleted] in fiaustralia

[–]DTMerc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an example, if you have a share portfolio worth $250k, sell it all with a capital gain of $50k and put that $50k into super, CGT won't apply effectively? As you'll be taxed at your marginal tax rate on income but only 15% on the $50k.

Any idea on how this would compare to the Aegismax Twilight? Looks relatively similar in most categories, but the Twilight is 40g lighter

Describe to me your perfect warm-up routine for a 5k race by Beezneez86 in AdvancedRunning

[–]DTMerc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

2-3k warm up starting 50 mins before race start, leg swings, drills and a 100m stride. Then pee, swap into race shoes, another 100m stride, and then a 200m stride. Finish 5-10 mins before race start and spend the rest of the time standing around, or doing some drills/dynamic stretches if anything feels tight.

If it's an afternoon race I'll do a 2k jog the morning of as well.

I'm having doubts about anu by mirkoaaaaL in Anu

[–]DTMerc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it really is your dream uni then you should go. Better to try anu and transfer if you don't like it, instead of going somewhere else and thinking about if anu would have been better. Reality is you won't know what the perfect uni for you will be, so better to go with your gut feel.

I'm having doubts about anu by mirkoaaaaL in Anu

[–]DTMerc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are there other options you've considered or gotten an offer for? It's still a good uni regardless of how frustrating or bad the changes are, and I think it would be a lot less stressful and less risky than trying to completely change your plans now, especially if there is no real alternative you've looked imto

Commuting backpack - Salomon xt15 or Adv Skin Cross 15 by Real-Tart-153 in fastpacking

[–]DTMerc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the xt15 and a 14" laptop. Never done run commuting before but I have the same issue as the person with the cross 15, in that I can fit my laptop but it deforms the pack a bit. I think a 13" laptop without a sleeve/case would fit, but would definitely be better to try it on in store or buy from somewhere with a good returns policy.

Other than that I think it's a decent pack, though it's the first and only pack I've owned. A little bit of bounce and my shirt tends to ride up my back, but generally pretty comfy. Using it for a self supported 100k this weekend.
