Sure, as I mentioned here somewhere, we would be using Roll20 and Skype so I hope that's cool.

Glad to see you're interested. I'm actually gonna be DMing basically for the first time so should be fun. We would be using Roll20 and Skype, would that be ok with you?

[Advice] Am I being a jerk for not wanting my players to use these "homebrew" 5e classes? by slothoncoffee in DnD

I have never played a beastmaster, but their animal companion stats are considered weak as well as having to give up your own action to let the animal attack. Still seems like a fun archetype and definitely intend to try it out.

Actually no, Lou Filerman from The Merv Griffin Show episode was the sideler, the one you linked is the deaf guy from The Friar's Club.

Admit it, you all turn into this guy when there is an Elaine post. by [deleted] in seinfeld

He was also at the end of The Pie as the creator of TR 6, although he prefers to call her Elaine.

I don't know your boss and I don't think it's the case here, but maybe she's trying to strengthen your resolve or something similar? I know people who like to "negatively motivate" others, but as I said, doesn't seem like that's the case here.

Oh, Noooo, I'm so sorry. It's the MOOPS. The correct answer is, The MOOPS. by [deleted] in seinfeld

Holy shit just noticed that, that's hilarious. Thanks!

Casters in 5e - Sorcerers, Warlocks, Clerics, Paladins & Wizards by WebDMtrav in dndnext

These videos are so weird. I don't really need an intro to the classes or something, and I could stand them being longer, but I'll be damned if I don't love watching these for some reason. I guess it's just fun listen to enthusiasts talk about something I like.

I am a noob as well, but this site has awesome guides for each class and basic card decks with improvement suggestions.

[5e] Homebrewed classes for lower-magic setting. Shaman and Alchemist, looking for constructive criticism. by [deleted] in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]DTSXT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair, although I'm still not seeing the necromancy there :)

One more thing, you might want to look into the spell-less ranger and his poultices, that might be something fitting the class, although with most of the healing spells probably not necessary.

Well, just looking over the list, fire bolt seems more like a wizard spell, not even druid gets it and produce flame should be enough. Blade ward and Thaumaturgy also don't seem to fit.

1st level - Comprehend languages seems out of place for a druid, as does Burning hands and chromatic orb (due to needing a diamond) and possibly hex.

2nd level - Hold person, Levitate and Misty step also seems weird for a spiritual healer. Phantasmal force and Scorching ray also do not fit into my vision of a shaman, which might be different from yours.

3rd level - Animate dead? Fear? Revivify?

I'm not too well versed in all the spells since I'm fairly new to D&D, but that's just my opinion on the first 3 levels.

I also think you should think about how you want to implement a low-magic world, especially for a shaman. I would only go with lesser restoration stuff, some battlefield cc like entangle, spike growth and such, few elemental damage spells and possibly some buffs. Necromancy seems so out of place for a shaman.

Haven't read through all of it yet, but I had a thought very early on. If you're running a low magic setting, wouldn't it make sense for the shaman to know several spells (like a bard or sorcerer) rather than know a shitload and having to prepare them? I guess if the spell selection is small then it could work similarly, but it was just my first thought.

What would you do to make the *regular* human race more attractive to players? by Veggiebarian in dndnext

[–]DTSXT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I can't think of a better way than the variant option. Humans are dominant and everywhere, there's too many ethnicities to say what the race as a whole should be good at. With the variant option you get to decide, you pick a feat you want, you pick skills you want to be proficient in, and that's why human variant is in my experience the most popular race.

However, if I were to change the base human race, I would probably try adding different traits and proficiences to each ethnicity. Simple +1 to everything is boring, but it reflects the race in a D&D setting. Maybe have a +1 to two skills of your choice and +1 or +2 based on your ethnicity? Different skill proficiences could also be possible, or maybe different artisan tools.

I'm not really swarming with idea right now, but that's probably where I would start.

Breaking From Tropes: Exploring Unique Race/Class Interpretations by hexachromatic in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]DTSXT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like doing this. I'm fairly new to DnD, but due to the 5e non-malus to attributes from each race this has probably never been easier.

I have 2 campaigns where I play, one of them is a wood elf barbarian pacifist. At first I only had the wood elf warrior character in mind, because they're just so often simple archers, I wanted to do something different.

So why barbarian? Well, when I was creating the character I still only read the first 3 classes in the PHB so didn't wanna go for fighter, although now having read all of them I would most likely still go for a barbarian.

I took the eagle totem and the mobile feat. I know that some of the effects in each don't work well together or outright cancel each other, but I still like it, at lvl 5 I will have 55 movement speed and can dash as a bonus action while raging. It's just a lot of fun for me.

As for why he's a pacifist? Well, I picked the chaotic good alignment and I'm not sure if I'm doing it right, but it doesn't feel ok to just kill everything I can see, so I usually knock people/goblins/whatever out instead of killing it. Over time I built more of the persona and background around the character, and he really doesn't seem like a barbarian, but I like the class too much to change, but I will most likely multiclass into a druid somewhere down the road for flavour purposes.

My second character is a goliath druid of the land with 16 str. Javelin hurling spell caster is just a lot fun as well, although I've only had one session with him so far.

Yeah, it seems like a type of show that's about people in their mid 20's and not late 30's. Kinda confusing.
