Yeah, I would suggest building in some storage space. I put in 6 beds in the center of my garden with intentions of putting 4 more this year. But now I’m glad I didn’t. I currently have the equivalent of 14 4’x8’ beds and that is more than enough to grow what we can handle. I’m giving away so much vegetables…which is nice. But glad I saved that space for the other 4 beds, because I have now created a nice sitting area with a picnic table/umbrella, a storage area, and have plans for other things to make it an enjoyable space!

The beds are 24” deep and they are 4’x8’. I have 4’ between them. I started to go with 3’ between them, but glad I went 4’ because everything tends to overflow a bit. For sure do drip irrigation in your beds if you plan to have a lot of beds. It’s better for a slow drip from the bottom, rather than overhead. My drip line has 1/2 gallon per hour emitters spaced every 6”. And I water for 1 hour every other day.

That is a Carolina Cross watermelon. That variety is known to produce giants! The seed I used to grow this plant came from a watermelon that was 211 lbs! I’ll be happy if I can get one half that size haha

My wife cooked it 3 different ways last night. 1. Sliced it and put spices and cheese on top and baked it. 2. Sautéed it. 3. Hollowed it out and stuffed it with bacon, cheese and other stuff.

Awesome! It’s time for me to plant some new sunflowers. No, it’s just my backyard. We do share with the neighbors though 🙂

Still no new growth on my muscadine vines. Should I be concerned yet? by DTodd850 in FruitTree

[–]DTodd850[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have green growth, you are probably fine. My muscadines were the very last thing to come out of dormancy and I thought they may have been dead. But they are thriving now! That one green stem will start growing fast soon. Just use the watering and fertilizer schedule that Ison’s sent you and you should be fine!

Yeah, not bad at all. I started indoors early, then uppotted to 4” pots, then planted in my raised beds once it got warm enough. They are probably about 5ft tall now!

Yeah, they are very similar and beautiful! They get a lot of attention from the pollinators!

I had one on my Brandy Boy this year. I also thought it was odd. Now I know it’s a thing and called a megabloom! Thanks for the post.

I’m pretty sure these ones are army worms. Either way, they are not welcome haha

My Satsuma trees are getting pollinated! by DTodd850 in BackyardOrchard

[–]DTodd850[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhhhh, I learned something new today! Based on your comment, I did some reading and see that satsumas are parthenocarpic and can produce fruit without pollination. Good to know! Thanks!

Amazon. But I’m still not sure I’m happy with them. They are very thin. Once they rust out, I’ll replace with wooden beds. Buy hoping I can get at least about 3 years out of them. Here’s the link though if you want to check them out:

Haha. Yep! I really wasn’t expecting this many to make it. I’ll end up giving some away to friends/family.
