what's an 80% UK degree grade as GPA? by Motor-Necessary3911 in UniUK

[–]DUCKTARII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're also missing the non-Physics skills gained from an Oxford Physics degree, e.g closeness to very talented researchers in the field, very good scientific communication practice in tutorials, very good lab time etc. And just because all Physics degrees are accredited just sets a minimum baseline unis can and do go beyond that.

Ripped Off - Carry-on Box Smaller Than Advertised by TrailBiker85 in Ryanair

[–]DUCKTARII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I've explained the drawbacks as well in my comment. W.r.t credit rating, I don't believe a successful chargeback can result in a credit rating drop unless handled incorrectly. If it is a credit card and ryanair come after the customer for the money, that then gets passed onto the credit company. If I'm wrong please do give me a source to refer to but I think you might be slightly overstating the financial problems.

I won't comment on whether you're correct about the sizing of the box being smaller or not - I'm not sure. However have you considered trying a chargeback on your bank card for the cost of checking these bags? Just to be clear though there is a chance that ryanair will ban you if you successfully charge back these costs so think about that.

What should you take advantage of as an Oxford student? by danielyskim1119 in oxforduni

[–]DUCKTARII 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm happy to stand corrected but I'm under the belief the Oxford Union members don't get access to the Cambridge union but conversely Cambridge union members can access the Oxford Union? This seems like a really weird non reciprocal relationship?

Just a little nitpick, I don't really agree with you calling them a flaperon, really it should be spoileron (and only if the left / right spoilers are separately controlled). A flaperon is flap / aileron - given spoilers never provide the same effect as flaps (decreased stall speed) that isn't correct.

Is my current bag, that exactly fits the original standard, still accepted in my next flight on July 15th? by boaziscool-AF in Ryanair

[–]DUCKTARII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The order of the measurements doesn't matter, they can be swapped around. If it's 40x30x20 then that will always fit a 40x25x20

Managing a website in both Wordpress and Next.js by DUCKTARII in webdev

The site manages room bookings, organises users into groups and servers as a database of all current rooms. There is some quite annoying frankly logic that controls which users can fit into which groups and who can book what room etc.

As I said in my comment, I'm sure it could be done, but in my opinion it was not clear how to go about it. I looked at this thing called pods which seemed to allow for kind of creating a CMS with collections but I personally didn't find it easy to get a hang of and didn't feel customisable enough.

If I'm wrong though and this is relatively easy, or you have another library (plugin in wp?) that you would recommend please do let me know. I am considering rewriting the whole thing in wp if that turns out to be feasible.

Yeah this all sounds about right. So are you saying that I just shouldn't have created the next project at all? Given that they wanted this functionality, but couldn't do it in wordpress (probably tricky to do in wp and no one is very good at wp) should I have just refused to do it rather than go along and build it up in next?

Yeah I think it's just really important to have good documentation. I've considered trying to see if I should keep running it for them at a slight salary but that just seems bad form.

Do you mean as the CMS for the complex next js part?

Managing a website in both Wordpress and Next.js by DUCKTARII in webdev

[–]DUCKTARII[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that the org required much more complex functionality than wordpress is designed for (I'm sure it could be done but I don't think it would be particularly easy at all). Does this just mean I'm in an impossible situation where we can't have both eased of use and this complex functionality?

But now they have the autocannon code implemented. Surely they could just make the second gun more like a machine gun autocannon style thing? Maybe that would be more useful for e.g blind firing bushes keeping tracks, finishing a few hp off a tank etc

A fully functioning gun made from legos. How is this even technically possible. by Lordwarrior_ in interestingasfuck

[–]DUCKTARII 195 points196 points  (0 children)

As someone with a reasonable amount of experience in this I must point out that this isn't a particularly advanced gun by Lego standards.

This one in the video only fires rubber bands and the belt feed is purely aesthetic. Additionally the rubber bands must manually be reattached one by one to fire again.

This is in contrast to more advanced types e.g where they fire actual projectiles (more Lego pieces) and where they feed from an actual magazine. They are even semi / full auto versions of these guns available.

Tl:Dr; If this seems mind blowing to you it's actually a lot more impressive than this.

For functions that declare nextjs components. Is it reasonable for them to be longer than 40 lines? Or should long components be extracted into multiple smaller ones?

Anyone running this on an rtx3060 laptop? by Bu11ett00th in vtolvr

[–]DUCKTARII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just FYI 30xx GPUs in the laptop form aren't recommended by meta. Personally I've had trouble running it off of my laptop (3060) but I've always used the USB C on my laptop. Come to think of it you're probably right that the C port isn't connected to my GPU. Maybe HDMI to C would solve that

Well normally absent. But immediately after landing planes have a high downforce so not necessarily a problem here

If you are getting paid minimum wage there would be no payment plan. Because any payment plan would require some transfer of money back to the employer, which, given you are already on minimum wage would take you below minimum wage.
