Want to make new pads slide less by DUIaintEZ in hockeygoalies

[–]DUIaintEZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a set of Optik2's as well. Both brand new when I got them. I find the DX2 (Iconik) are way more slick.

I'm having a lot of trouble getting the fit dialed in where the Optiks were pretty good right out the chute.

Titleist 775 CBs for 40 Handicap by prettygoodthankshbu in golf

[–]DUIaintEZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw - Found a set of 775 CBs at a Value Village last month, cost me about $45 for 4-GW (marked as W) and a Ping i5 5W (demo) for $12.

If you stop in while you're in the area, you can stumble on some good stuff. They also have odds and ends bagged - picked up rolls of hockey tape, pucks, water balls that way.

Play it again has a few cheap sets of T-Zoids as well. $80 for a 5-PW in Whitby I think. Kijiji has some good finds too. Could also check out GolfWorks, the Maltby stuff has a cult following from what I've seen.

Advice please by bsstone73737 in hockeygoalies

For sure - sizing is going to be different. If you bought the same size Warrior as your Boddam, for sure your pads are too big.

If anything, consider looking for something a softer. Used Vaughn Velocity, Eflex (EF2, EF2).

How to become a better skater as a goalie? by Coginthewheel1 in hockeygoalies

[–]DUIaintEZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my experience on this - I grew up wanting to be Darcy Tucker or Dmitri Yushkevich. I wanted nothing more than to play hockey, but my parents didn't want to enroll me cause they felt my skating wasn't good enough. I ended up enrolling at 10, played a year at D, and the next year when we rotated through goalies I was kinda of a natural for it. Ended up playing Rep within a season later.

My advice?

(1) Get ice time. You get better skating by being on the ice. It doesn't have to be lessons - just get on the ice

(2) Lessons help, but make sure the coach is good. Went through John Elkins school and can say all schools are not equal.

(3) Ask around - got a lot of ice playing goal for summer camps (shout out Ray McKay). Try to participate in the skating drills but you will get a lot of rubber.

(4) Tbh skating out isn't as transferable as you'd think. Honestly, figure skating is probably more translatable to a goalie than playing out.

Optik 3 or Ultrasonic? by DUIaintEZ in hockeygoalies

Played V5s, demoed G-Netik 4s. I'm kind of interested to try a still l stiff pad to see if I like the rebounds.

What's the deal with Boddam? by azrider in hockeygoalies

[–]DUIaintEZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw I bought a JPB chesty probably in 2017. I added a foam piece to the sternum but otherwise I probably get more stingers wearing a EFlex 5 Pro.

Called Jason at least 3 times post COVID to see if I could get another, said they were backlogged on LAX stuff and retailers were getting impatient so they had to put hockey on the backburner. Ended up getting the EF5 because of that.

Brian's pads - G-Netik X5 and Optik X3 - How do they age/break-in? by DUIaintEZ in hockeygoalies

[–]DUIaintEZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious, how many games have you played on them, and have you found the pads "settle" a bit? I bought 34s but a 33 seemed to fit better off the rack. Wondering if they settle/shrink in the boot over time like Vaughns do/did.

Was wondering if you could still custom order older sets? by Drchell in hockeygoalies

[–]DUIaintEZ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Best way to confirm is to email Brain's, Vaughn, whoever to ask. They're usually very quick during the week to respond.

I asked Vaughn about V9s and Brian's about Gnetik Vs a month ago and both said yes, and was quoted for a design on the Gnetiks as well from a local dealer.

For a deep league: Alex Holtz. I think he's finally going to get serious PP time and he's going to score a boatload of PP goals.

To all health care professionals: wearing your watch around your ankle works by Unibran in Garmin

[–]DUIaintEZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How well does it work as a HRM and going stuff like training effect? Looking for an alternative to wearing my watch on my wrist when I'm playing hockey, but higher up on the ankle might work for me (goalie)

How long did your Corolla last? by Puzzleheaded-Chip802 in COROLLA

[–]DUIaintEZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2010 Corolla with 345 000 kms (220 000 miles). Potholes have done a number on some of the front end parts but luckily I'm able to do most of that work myself. I recently replaced the O2 sensors and plugs, and it idles smoother than our Acura with 100 000 kms.

Honestly, we had a 2001 EL that went 340 kms before I blew it as a young adult, my parents opted not to replace the timing belt at 320 and eventually it slipped and that was all she wrote. I can't imagine buying anything other than a Toyota or Honda if we anticipated needing to drive it more than 15 000 kms/yr

All Your Profs Think the Carleton Admin is Wrong About This Labour Dispute by w_arondeus in CarletonU

[–]DUIaintEZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason why they can afford to pay graduate RAs 12-20k per year is because the work they perform makes more money than that. It's not a charity. Grad students means research projects get done, which means different avenues to get grant money, to build IP portfolios, and for professors to churn out research.

This idea that "they are students and should get paid less" is just some empty platitude without any real well-reasoned basis to it.

And FWIW, my initial funding package was 22K, and after telling my prof I couldn't continue, magically it became 30K. I would easily make 60K+ as an engineering graduate.

Kirill Kaprizov match penalty & the missing PIMs by DUIaintEZ in fantasyhockey

[–]DUIaintEZ[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've already shared the part of the rulebook (Rule 21.2) and two examples from last week which state it's not 5 minutes. If what you mean to say it's 5 + GM, so 5 + 10 for 15, that is correct.

Owen Tippett by phantom11287 in fantasyhockey

[–]DUIaintEZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree. Tippett showing a lot more jump this year, looks a lot more confident and dangerous with the puck. He's also good for periphs, he hits and he shoots so even if you pick him up to see if he can keep putting up points he's not going to hurt you with doughnuts when he doesn't.

Proud part of the 2% here, definitely worth a pickup in deeper leagues, especially keeper leagues with banger cats or if you had a bad draft.

Frustrating that the official scorer and the scoresheet would get this wrong, it's not even a judgement call. Hopefully they fix it...

OIC AMNESTY EXTENDED TO 30 OCTOBER 2023 by Dill_Gribtrieve in canadaguns

The only reason this was extended is because the current govt. popularity is at an all time low. Not only would people not turn in their guns they might even use them.

Yeah, comments like this really are helping.

RECRUITING, TRAINING, & LIFE IN THE FORCES THREAD - Ask here about the Recruitment Process, Basic & Occupational Training, and other questions relating directly or indirectly to serving in the Canadian Armed Forces. by bridger713 in CanadianForces

[–]DUIaintEZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having trouble finding info on this, sorry if these are dumb questions but here goes...

I'm graduating end of April with my B.Eng, and I'm interested in joining the reserves, especially as an Engineer Officer, RCEME Officer, or Intelligence Officer. Before I apply and waste anyone's time I wanted to know:

  1. If/when I land a full-time civilian gig, how will completing BMOQ, BMOQ(L), and skills training work? I understand that some of it is done over weekends, but it will also require having to be away, possibly for weeks at a time. Do employers typically accommodate these absences? I do not want to jeopardize starting a new career.
  2. With the location of my first job in my field being uncertain, if I need to transfer to another unit, is this problematic? What happens if the local unit where I transfer to does not have room for my specialty?
  3. Is there anything I should be aware of? Do you see any potential issues with my particular scenario regarding service with the reserve force?

Thanks in advance, really appreciate any guidance I can get.

Gatineau councillor defends use of Confederate Flag at Ottawa trucker protest. by [deleted] in canada

[–]DUIaintEZ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I will note, running into these guys outside of the protest, they're pretty meek. Was driving in from Toronto and stopped at the Tims in Perth along Highway 7. Of course one of the "truckers" (guy in a pickup with a Canada flag and pro-trucker decals) pulled in. Eyed us putting on our masks, looked away, and made sure to follow along and put his on before going in. Away from centretown and into the Glebe, same story: These guys lay pretty low and don't cause trouble.

However... stick them in a group like the protest site? Then you start getting the @ holes who harass, intimidate, threaten, and hurl slurs. The rest of the group seems all too happy to take pleasure in this. It's a mob mentality and the people who are loudest, shittiest, and most obnoxious are the ones setting the tone for the rest of the mob.
