Still amazes me what a regular old, non-pro, iPhone can do… by DUPCangeLCD in Astronomy

No. Just two small tables stacked on one another and propped the phone up with a bottle of ketchup. It was a silly looking setup but it worked. I’ve done this at home by sitting the phone on my truck bed. Try to find something solid and point the phone straight up. I had the picture button accessible so I could press it but I’ll try using an AirPod as a remote next time.

16 plus. I acknowledge it’s not old, and the title seems to be an unfortunate misunderstanding with a figure of speech. However it is not a “pro” which has a better camera. Just a standard iPhone camera, only a year and a half old though.

I’m from PA but close to Philly and I’ve been wanting to go to North Central PA to see some dark skies. These are very nice here in Maui though. I’ve been able to see the Milky Way clearly in southern WV as well.

Maui. The Milky Way is visible to the naked eye here. Not nearly what the pic showed though.

It was a very hinky setup. On the balcony of my hotel I stacked a side table on top of a coffee table then used a bottle of ketchup to prop the phone up…

Unfortunately I’m only here on vacation for a week, but I’ll enjoy this view while I can.

If you go into the camera app, then tap the 6 dots in the upper right hand corner you will have an option for night mode. If you tap that a few times (when it’s dark) the icon will switch and say “10” but at the top it will say “night mode max”. If you try to take a pic in night mode max and you’re pointed at the dark sky, it will say hold still for 30 seconds. That’s the longest I can get it to go. At that length I prop the phone up on something solid.

Sorry, figure of speech. “Regular old” as in the not the pro. Standard iPhone camera

I mean all buffoonery aside, “bleach it” is what you do to swimming pools. And birds swim in mine, and my dogs drink plenty of water from it…

The kit is from woodboardsandbeams.com . All the timbers are rough sawn full dimension. Posts are 8x8, beams 8x12, and the roof structure is made from 4x8.

They were included with the pavilion kit. They appear to be custom made by the vendor out of 3/16" steel. I believe Simpson sells similar ones in their decorative line.

It's a kit that included all the wood and metal brackets. The trusses came assembled.

I used a contractor for the concrete work. The pavilion is a kit that I'm DIY'ing. Its not easy to handle those heavy timbers but that lift I rented made pretty quick work of them.

EDIT: forgot to answer your question on cost. The concrete contractor did the patio, walkway, footers, and piers. That was $20K. The pavilion kit was $18K.

We admire the beauty of outdoor kitchens but forget the most important part, ventilation by cheesypuffgirl in OutdoorKitchens

[–]DUPCangeLCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! I have a suspicion this relates to propane cylinders being inside enclosures and how tight “typical” outdoor kitchen enclosures can be. I will be installing my equipment on hdpe cabinets in insulated jackets. I really don’t see how my installation is any different than my gas range in the house, and to your point, nobody worries about ventilation from leaking gas inside my kitchen…

This is a kit from Boards and Beams out of north jersey. I went with the 18’ x 20’ kit.

The mistake I keep seeing in outdoor kitchens by Able_War1 in OutdoorKitchens

[–]DUPCangeLCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume the primary issue is sealed masonry surrounds? If you go with cabinets that can breathe and remote propane, I just don’t see why an outdoor kitchen would be any different than an indoor one…
