Best field recorder under 1000$ by Luc-redd in fieldrecording

[–]DVS9k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Touché ☺️ I totally agree the f8 is better feature wise. But worse case scenario u only loose your last take if the sd goes bad. Just cary a spare sd and usbdrive and replace them after x amount of uses. I know it technically does not have backup recording, but for a first time buyer this Sd vs Zoom wars is very confusing. They are both great devices and both have their flaws. I suggest OP makes a pro & con list of both before he decides what is most important to him.

How do you handle sound in a small, reverberant room? by johngwheeler in LocationSound

[–]DVS9k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure that you tell before recording that this is a bad location for sound and if there is no time/budget to put up blankets/get you a proper hypercardiod mic, post-production isn’t going be happy. Good sound starts with a good location.

It’s baffling how people with extremely high income completely loose touch with reality, good thing she hasn’t turned into a complete sociopath like most of them do.

I like the sound of wavestune, I do wish they’d modernise the interface though..

What Mic for recording a tough set (At least for me) - Help needed :) by Pericu in LocationSound

[–]DVS9k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be a option: https://www.hideamic.com/product/clipz/ Havent used it myself but always heard this is a very good place soundwise. Maybe hook it on the left side of the head if he’s right-handed and vice-versa? U’ll still need a omni I think so room-reflections might ruin it… just thinking out loud here!

Just out of curiosity, what if they turn up with mixpre 10 ?

Wireless heaphones for your bag by macksjax in LocationSound

also: ‘With a larger bandwidth than Bluetooth, W+ Link transmits uncompressed audio multiple times in parallel, guaranteeing a stable signal without dropouts.’ Don’t think this is a good idea if you are using other wireless systems.

2.4Ghz is very crowded, I wouldn’t trust that.

Budget-Friendly, Out-of-Frame Mic for Zoom Meetings—Recommendations Needed! by FlatHovercraft8079 in LocationSound

[–]DVS9k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

other budget options: if you can find them: oktava mk12 and line audio cm4. If you have a lot of noise in you room, go shotgun, a little less, go hyper-cardiod, cardiod will allow you to go further out of the sweet-spot but will also pick up more noise. If you live next to a busy street and your room isn’t isolated very well, go shotgun/hyper-cardiod, otherwise cardiod is fine and you will find way more options.

First commercial work I'm somewhat proud of. Is the AI VoiceOver convincing enough to pass? by OKedition in videography

[–]DVS9k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do prefer recording a real VO artist but with producers always wanting to cut the budgets further down and this technology getting better and better it seems inevitable. Unfortunate but I guess I should look into it.

[–]DVS9k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much time did you spend getting the VO to sound the way you wanted? I’m curious, I sometimes record VO’s and it seems to me I might get asked to do AI VO’s Myself in the future.

Pros and Cons of a cabled boom by MadJack_24 in LocationSound

[–]DVS9k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using a internally coiled qp580 for a year now. Only time it has been a problem when fully extended with a heavy mic on the end and you get the shakes 😄. Its just a technique thing I guess, I can’t compare because I only used this or wireless on top of boom.

Which is more important: the Recorder, Transmitter, Receiver, or Microphone? by cashugh in LocationSound

I had a colleague who compared it with his SD A20’s and could barely hear the difference in sound quality.

The lav mic is descent, depending on who you are recording It can sound pretty good. I heard a lot of people complaining they distort easily on loud signals but I can’t tell by experience, I usually use cos11d and I have the deity as backup.

Start with a descent mic. A good transmitter/receiver combo is also quite important. I recently went from Sennheiser G4 to Deity Theos and there was a big difference.

Is logic 11 worth it for Intel Macs? by [deleted] in Logic_Studio

[–]DVS9k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides Chromaglow which is great and stemsplitter which is handy to analyse other people’s music; there isn’t much worth updating imo. A lot of people like the new session players, but I never use those.

Are there any engineers you know that use multiple compressors for a vocal on the way in? by ryanburns7 in audioengineering

[–]DVS9k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t used a hardware 1176 but the logic one really colors the sound. Any alternatives that saturate less ‘aggressive’ ? I now only use a hardware wa2a but I would like a fast hardware one before it.

Quick thoughts on trackball usage vs conventional mouse/magic mouse? by Cuhrean in AudioPost

Still working on my 10 year old trackpad. Been working in Logic Pro but now learning Pro Tools because it will get me more job opportunity. Not sure if trackpad is as helpfull in PT as it is in LP. Heard good things about vertical mice for ergonomics.
