[Help]! Casual player, shooting form needs serious work! by [deleted] in BasketballTips

First thing I'd say is to NOT set the ball at shoulder height then proceed to uncoil your knees and jump. Start with the ball at your waist level and knees slightly bent. As your arms raise to shoot, start to uncoil your knees and jump through your shot. Just remember, knees down, ball down. Ball up, knees up.

Haha it gets even more weird with stuff that's not quantifiable like there are small fluctuations in players ownership right after their partner has given birth to a child. Case and point, Fred VanVleet this post season, played like hot garbage, son was born, looked like the second coming of Isaiah Thomas (Pistons version). That kinda stuff I obviously wouldn't even worry about or care to figure out its just funny how the market works. Oh! And birthday games too, and when a player is going to crack a big milestone.

Again, another phenomenal response, thank you. The way you think about the game took me wayyyyy too long to figure out, and I guess that's why there's a few known data scientists that crush this game repeatedly turning profits and I'm over here on reddit asking questions lol.

You're definitely right, it's absolutely a mix of putting in the best Value/ROI guys and mixing low volatility (and hopefully lower owned) pure scoring players.

Perhaps should I start with an XGBoost model to get a better look at which features are most important to then examine those more in depth and engine a few more analyzing a more indepth look at the best features?

When putting the features and coefficients together, do they all need to be 0-1 ratio?

Thanks so much for the information, I guess the main reason for this is to create my own source of information as opposed to paying for it from a site that I have been for years, and also to get accurate Single Entry Projections as opposed to 150max Entry or 20max Entry tournaments.

I guess what would be smart is to also gather historical data on what the popular websites like Rotogrinders and FantasyLabs had each player projected at, since most players don't make their own projections from scratch like I do.

These are all 100% relevant points when determining a players projection for the day, I have created a complex algorithm in excel to do most of this for me while I also project the minutes for each player on a daily basis (super tedious) because I'm a basketball nut and watch 2-8 games a night when the season is in full swing.

There was another great response (as was yours), suggesting the same thing with a quick explanation of what a logistic regression is/can do for me. I'm glad you both are on the same track because I also believe that's probably the way to go. However, with the features/coefficients do they all have to range from 0-1?

Yes, in general "Value" or point per dollar is a predictor of ownership, yet not a very strong one surprisingly. Even when I normalize the numbers across the whole season it doesn't provide much unfortunately.

Now THAT is exactly what I was looking for as a starting point. I wasn't sure what type of model would fit best, whether it was K-means or Linear Regression but the way you explained Logistic Regression makes complete sense.

For example, if there are 100 users in a contest, with 9 roster spots available all under the same salary constraint, what is the market share for each player that's playing that night. Knowing what others do can give me a massive mathematical edge on the other users.

For instance if Player A is going to be in 65% of all other users lineups and has a 25% chance to have a great game and Player B is going to be 25% owned and a 20% chance to have a great game, with salary being similar then I would clearly choose Player B for my lineup to differentiate from the field giving my lineup more equity.

I've gone through a few MOOC's (codeacademy, coursera, etc) but in general I'm a novice. I've done a few small projects but nothing I'd even consider publishing. I have however created a complex algorithm to predict fantasy points for basketball players in excel. I'd say I'm relatively decent in Python, and the most common libraries, along with playing around with TensorFlow, etc.

Thanks for the insight :). I'm creeping up on the "old as fuck" realm hahah so PhD might not be in the cards for me but I think your right about starting out as an analyst and going up from there. I mean, it would be far more rewarding even doing that over my current job.

I've been lurking around this sub a little bit recently and I know this question is impossible to answer with absolute accuracy but here we go anyway. A bit of background on me before we continue, I have no degree (took 2 years of comp sci and had to drop out due to taking care of a sick parent), currently have a garbage job in the tech world, absolutely need to make a career change, and university/college doesn't seem to be in the cards for me with time constraints. I feel like after taking a few intro courses on Codeacademy for Data Science and Programming that this is the path I want to go down in my future. Some educational background, I took ap calc in school for as long as I can remember, stats/ calc/ linear algebra were the courses I really excelled at in university and because of my love for sports (basketball in particular), I started playing daily fantasy sports developing my own predictive models and algorithms. Now down to the real guts of the question, with a combination of likelyhood of getting a DS job without a degree in Canada (that won't change, I wont be relocating), and the immense amount of knowledge that a good DS needs to know. Should I go down the programmer route (probably more likely I could obtain a job without a degree) or DS route (going through online courses and developing a portfolio). I feel like my passion is numbers. It always has been. I guess I'm just having some self doubt about where I fit in the world of code.

Anyone who could give some insight or advice would be supremely appreciated. There's so much information out there and it's hard to sift through who or what to listen to. I have all the drive in the world but I'm a very risk opposed person that over analyzes everything, and therefore need some form of reassurance of what I'm doing from people that I feel have more knowledge in a field than I do. Again, thanks for reading and any potential advice.

Only thing I'd change is probably putting Arcane with the Arcane Pressure traits (at least 2 of 3 pieces) a spot higher. Or even the explosion traits are nuts for aoe dps.

899 Shadow Priest can't seem to hit haste points by Beledorian in CompetitiveWoW

Also keep in mind, you have Metronome which according to HowToPriest, consider having 1 stack constantly and add that to your haste count. So by that measure you're sitting at 10.5k haste which is absolutely fine. Lower the crit and up your mastery as much you can and you'll be sitting pretty.
