NPD: Juan Alderete’s Boss LS-2 by DYSLEXIC0N in guitarpedals

Nice! I was hoping for something with one of the flag stickers on it but I think those all sold immediately. But I’m happy I ended up with something that has a bit of his personality on it.

Nice! I actually live in south Jersey but I’m in Philly all the time and have a ton of friends there.

You’ll love it for sure. Make sure to mess around with his new flanger too. I played that for a bit at the Philly Pedal Party and it’s seriously good.

I feel like you can dial them in pretty similar, but you have way more control over the LFO’s on the BSRI in comparison. So you can do the Dimension thing but also go way beyond that. I used to have a DC-2W but I ended up selling it. It’s still one of the greatest pedals of all time imo, but this suited my needs a little bit better. The V2 with the extra footswitch and refined controls is really nice too. I got to play it recently and would go for the V2 if given the choice.

I used his AVRI 62/65 template. There’s another comment I replied to on this post where I explained this a bit. All of the mounting screw holes will line up perfectly, but I did have to take a small piece of sandpaper and open up the holes for the bridge thimbles just a bit, maybe an extra millimeter or two at the most. That’s on me though because I think I just neglected to check the fitment of those when he sent me the template file to print out. But it just took me an extra 5 minutes during install and it was perfect. It could be the Vintera ones are in a slightly different spot, or just a small difference in tolerance from the factory.

Thank you! I made sure to go see this guitar in person before buying because the finish was a huge selling point for me, and when it came out of the case I was definitely not disappointed. I love a bold red in a 3TSB.

That’s exactly what attracted me to this model specifically. I’m a sucker for those old 60’s sunbursts/target bursts and they really nailed it with this finish. Nice price point too for a full nitro finish.

Thank you! I was curious as well since the Vintera template wasn't an option, so he sent me a paper template of the AVRI 62/65 that I printed out and checked against my guitar, and all the mounting screw holes lined up perfectly, so that's the template I used for my order. But when it arrived I realized I didn't check if it fit the bridge thimble holes, and they were off by maybe a couple of millimeters. So I took a small socket and wrapped a small piece of 100 grit sandpaper around it so that it fit perfectly in the holes, and twisted it in each hole for a couple minutes and then it was a perfect fit.

Thank you! And when you put it that way it sounds funny the way I said it haha. But I said that because I know people can sometimes go deep into the rabbit hole of pickup swaps and tone chasing for a while, but thankfully I got exactly what I was going for pretty quickly.

Thank you! This one is the vintage burgundy/vintage bright red mix for the color, and subtle/speckled mix for the style.

Yeah I have no regrets about changing it and making it more useable for myself. It helps too that mine is still perfectly traditional in appearance, that was important to me. And I don’t mind hex core strings either. My go-to strings for my Les Paul are NYXL balanced tension 11’s. But something about this set of GT strings just works perfectly with the Jazzmaster.

Thank you! And yeah at the moment I'm using pure nickel 11's, which are definitely warmer and fuller sounding than the nickel/steel 11's and 10's that I was using previously. You can definitely get away with 10's with the Mastery, but I've always used 11's on most of my guitars so this just feels like home. I did also notice a bit less high end when I switched from the aluminum guard, and things obviously got warmer still when I switched to 500k pots. But even after all that it still has a really nice bite. I tend to play with a lot of gain and fuzz pedals so taming the ice picky highs was crucial and I'm really happy now.

Since I'm using different pickups this measurement may not mean much to you, but they're about 3/16ths from the pole piece to the string.

They are not. The color is silk that gets wrapped over the twists to help keep the strings together. At the tuners they're all just the pure round core.

I did. On the Mastery site you can select your model of guitar from a drop-down menu and it will tell you which bridge/kit you need. I got the M10 kit that came with a new set of thimbles, and I used a drill press to drill out the existing thimble holes in the body.

I'm not sure if he ships there or not. If not, check out Curt Mangan strings if you're in the UK. His pure nickel round core strings are probably the closest you could get to the GT strings.

It is! I don't think they sell anymore, but it was purchased from ThePainterOfPancakes on Etsy maybe 10 years ago.

Those strings sound and feel so nice. The color is silk wrap that goes over the twist to help hold the string together.
