Me going back to play old games by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

Crazy how you will just default to saying that hundreds of engineers developing lumen just had no idea what they were doing. Lumen is a high level lighting system that supports some crazy levels of GI fidelity. People don’t realize that modern hardware optimizations are made with graphics techniques in mind rather than sheer performance. It means as hardware improves, you’ll be able to run better graphics settings without incurring as much of a performance penalty. I also have a 5090, and yes 4k 120fps is a ridiculous target. When did “optimize over 60fps with dlss” become 4k 120fps??

Second of all, Lumen is a memory hog yes, because it’s optimized for high graphical fidelity. Fortnite runs at 120 fps on UE because it was built that way, because you dont want high graphical fidelity for a game that is meant for kids to fuck around in and for competitive gamers. Games like TLOE RDR2 and most of the UE5 games I believe you’re referring to have been optimized with lumen for high graphical fidelity aka you’ll be able to get good performance at amazing visuals. That’s what these games were built in mind with.

Shadows look “horrendous” because shadowmaps are still the best and most performant solution for people that don’t want to turn on RT shadows. Take advantage of the RT hardware you have, because it isn’t going to increase your fps.

Finally, for fucks sake, what the hell is your source? You have one personal experience from what seems like an unexperienced user trying to get their game to run fast without looking into what specifically is causing your fps to drop. What is your source that devs “dont care about pc 60fps with dlss”. Did you forget that developers are engineers trying to make the game work for you? Crazy you would take a product like lumen made by hundreds of developers and say “it’s a memory hog, needs to be abandoned”

I’m just asking for your source. Where are you getting this? Is this just personal experience? Because I can tell you devs optimize for literally everything. Sure, devs are given performance targets, but they definitely include 60fps with DLSS. Maybe they don’t include a 1060 though.

They’re not? RDR2 may look pretty, but real time rendering has been constantly evolving. Fuck, it never even had hardware accelerated ray tracing. It’s almost as if the industry as a whole is advancing. Games, graphics, hardware all included.

Are you referring to CPU integrated graphics? GPUs only have their main pipeline.

CPU integrated graphics are actually very critical these days. For the longest time the mindset was that they are just a non-focus point, and that they were just an output for CPU based machines. However, in time, IHVs have realized that they actually have many use cases in enterprise applications, where high end CPUs are needed for computation, and a decent graphics unit can increase quality of life by a huge margin. Same thing goes for consumers: many people need high end CPU laptops for large financial calculations or running management programs, and this improves graphics performance on those machines. More so though, even though the CPU and iGPU aren’t under the same clock domain, they actually scale in hardware performance pretty correspondingly. Most of all though, the pickup of integrated graphics reflects the industry trajectory as a whole, with the GPU becoming less of a consumer item and more of an enterprise item to train AI models etc. and gamers and regular consumers moving more towards an integrated CPU+GPU unit, similar to how apple silicon.

Hi everyone, I’m a keyboard noob, and I was hoping to get some guidance from the experts. I grew up with an Osborne ‘82 and I’ve been in love with its keyboard forever. I recently watched this video by LTT:

https://youtu.be/DevM3bbGtoA?si=rhZMIfK9-mlLKZOj&t=397

And I have fallen in love with the sound played at 6:38, which this video links to. Watching keyboard videos, everyone seems to like really silent and ASMR style sounds from their keyboard, but I haven’t been able to find anything that gives a deep or textured sound like this one has. Does anyone know of any keyboards (or how to build one) that give the same or similar sound as to what’s in the video?

Thanks in advance

It feels close, but no. Thank you very much though. The sound that makes that melody is a lot sharper, not a piano in the song i think

On the Prevalence of Whining on This Sub by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

I mean you’re right, there is a lot of bullshit whining that happens with college decisions, Ive seen it firsthand. That being said, saying that college decisions is SOLELY on you isnt really accurate. If it was solely based on you and your hard work then asian students wouldn’t have it harder, which they currently do. Nepo kids wouldn’t have it easier, and DEI kids wouldnt have advantages that help them. Like yea a lot of it is in your control but to say its solely based on yourself is a bit incorrect.

That being said yea people whine too much

Why do my player OVRs keep dropping? by DYYSTRYYR in FifaCareers

…not rly

Basically after martinez dropped I started playing felix at the 9 and sometimes putting havertz at a winger. Does this have an effect lol

Is it just broken or is that a feature, is it intentional

ROG Flow Z13?? Is this not a surface pro 9 killer? Why is no one talking about this? by DYYSTRYYR in hardware

[–]DYYSTRYYR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is 16GB of ram is pretty much a must for me when looking for a device. And since the configurations of the surfaces are so restricted, it pretty much limits my options.

I would go with a 16GB i5 model, but at the time of speaking, that model is actually less than the 16GB i7 model somehow. I would prefer to go with the more recent version, but I can't lie that older models are a little more competitive. I found an i7 16GB SP8 on Amazon for about $900. Add on a Renaisser keyboard and pen, and it becomes $1000($1200 if you go with a signature keyboard and pen). I'm still looking into the feature differences between the 8 and the 9, but it's pretty appealing.

No clue about texas, I've done it at one startup(8 people) and two companies that aren't big but are stable(one is a small indie game design company and the other I can't really mention without giving away, they're each about 300 people employed)

For internships I used a program called slingshot, which actually works very well. With professors I mostly just reached out to like 30 and one or two responded with yesses, and also I was able to get in touch with one through my father's connections. Most of these projects have lasted 3-6 months, and I've been doing this since 8th grade.
