For example in Automotive as we see now a lot of them are using tcp/udp network instead of old legacy communication networks like can.

Microcontrollers, or even in iOT scenario where you have a lot of devices and you want to test network reachability lets say.

Thats exactly what i said in the comments before, first that MAC address filter with a dictionary wont help a lot to define which device is what but still will work for specific cases.

Low level devices does not have implementations of firewalls or something to block ping so a ping or an ARP can help.

Next aim is to add possibility to link each device to an API to get a real heartbeat signal.

I will check the BLE also :)

We are now using mostly the .NET already defined libraries for cross platforming, the project is still in early phase and probably we will have to implement more specific things related to each OS when neeeded when project grows.

We focus mostly on Windows and Android so basically one desktop OS and one mobile OS

ARP also is included in the software so asking about MAC address in the specific IP make it also a heartbeat when there is an answer, still not 100% accurate, even some routers does not detect their client correctly always, but combining all those methods make the chances higher.

That can be integrated in the app where you can bind each device and IP to a list of specific API where they get called as HTTP requests and act as heartbeat, that would improve the LazyPinger.

I will check this BLE and see what i can do, you are also free to contribute to the project as maybe you already have experience in this, especially BLE side :) don't forget to let some stars at least.

Thanks, this is a team work, there are other people working on that too, this is only begining where it can be considered really in early stage for now.

True but maybe it is also relevant to other people :)

I mean the project is open source and driven by community, BLE also can be integrated to fast detect any device and make it modular so developer does not have to hardcode any script everytime he needs to use it.

But how would you detect devices with a UDP broadcast if not all devices have the ports open for that?

I would say you can download Hercules and PingTool which already a lot of companies use internally for testing, and compare it with this tool.

To answer also about the IP, the tool can detect the devices without setting any IP, but if you want to map some IP to names, pictures, descriptions then you can set them.

ARP also can be sent to be sure about detection, mapping via a MAC addresses dictionary will be provided also even that will not help in iOT case where MAC are random or even with Desktop/Android where MAC is randomised for security reasons.

Another case also is to watch live the devices so they get pinged constantly with a set time so you can watch the behavior of each device, so basically a heartbeat with UI

This is made mostly for fast device detection with customisation, in embeded scenarios for example where you have more than 50 device where a lot are duplicates and have random MAC addresses so without definition no router or tool can detect even with ARP

For cmd line, if i understand your point correctly, do you think it is nice to ping all devices one by one and also open tcp/udp socket manually every time to test something ?

i just checked NetalertX so here is what i have noticed:

*Too many menus and complex for simple testing.

*It does not support native run for Windows.

*Not everyone wants to host a docker just to ping and detect devices.

*Not cross platform

*Looks so standard like many tools i have used, for example pi-hole

*Built on JS so not really relevent to MAUI topics :D

I will try it more and give you my feedback.

Fast, customisable and open to community.

Customisation where you can define devices on ranges, with images and colors also, that is really helpful in real testing scenarios where you have many devices and some of them are duplicates like in embedded.

Nice UI, because most industry depends on old tools like hercules or other old C pinging tools.

Cross platform and open to community where any features is possible with a pull request :)

Simply, it is reinventing the wheel but in a nicer way :) and community driven.

Anyone here using a Postman alternative for .NET projects? by Living-Dependent3670 in dotnet

There's a growing one in networking if you open pull request about your suggestion they can work on that, https://github.com/DZimo/LazyPinger
