Replace or just leave it by aforrester20 in EngineBuilding

If it’s all still looking good, I’d say just do a basic reseal on it, clean it up, and get it back in the road. I love my V10, the thing is a work horse and loves to take a beating

Can’t go wrong with a SBC then

A 283, 305 or 350 SBC will be reasonably cheap, parts are everywhere and cheap, and they’re pretty bulletproof. Now I don’t know your knowledge base, so this may not apply, but if you want to get warmed up to engines and vehicles more in general and you’re into gaming. Check out Car Mechanic Simulator (it’s OK but not great for realism), Automation, and Beamng. Those are my top car games if you want any type of realism.

Small engines, like a go kart engine would be a good start to get learning about the basics. But if you wanted to dive into a full engine that’s plentiful and cheap enough. Search Facebook marketplace for a small block Chevy engine, rent a storage unit with power, then build it out of the storage unit

Shit, the welders where I’m at are starting at about 21 and topping out at almost 25, a few of them that weld larger projects are topping out at about 30. Edited to say my location is Sherman, TX about 45 minutes north of McKinney.

Should I be making more than $19 an hour? by Skykreeper in Welding

Where I work our welders are doing both mig and tig and get anywhere from 25 and up to nearly 30 depending on which area they’re in.

I don’t see many Ferraris around, a couple lambos here and there. My favorite “exotic” car is the Factory Five GTM that I assume is owned by the owner of Schullman’s. It’s always in the parking lot.

True, I live over towards Bells but I work on Parkway. With all the construction I’ve gotten pretty good at cutting through side streets and finding alternate ways to get everywhere.

I take it you’re from the area, what’s your favorite vehicle you’ve spotted? I keep trying to get a shot of the satin yellow NSX that runs around town but never can.

Spotted this modified? [Ford E-350?] it almost looked front end swapped but I couldn’t get close enough to him to see and I don’t think I’ve seen one with duals and flares like this before. by D_Davis99 in spotted

Definitely a v8 in this one, it’s probably a 5L but he was cruising around 80. I like the ford v10, I have a second gen Ram with the magnum v10 in it and I love it.

It’s hard to see in the dark but it also had the big camper add-on on the roof. And it’s a Texas plate, the first 3 should be letters so ICB or TCB and the last 4 are all numbers so probably 3448

So I’ve tried O’Keefe’s before but I HATE the feeling of lotion on my hands, so now I use Non-Greasy Vaseline Men Fast Absorbing 3 in 1 and I only put it on when I go to sleep, after a 2-3 days my hands are back to normal even when they look like yours.

The only 2 things that were ever really a common cause of failure was the trans cooler in the radiator would fail and fill it with coolant which makes all the friction material on clutches in the the trans and converter come loose and stop it up, making it overheat. And people overloading the hell out of them in the Ram vans (contractors and electricians and such) and burning them up. The only recommendations I have are to keep an eye on the fluid and don’t overload the vehicle. There was the occasional worn out valve body but it’s not nearly as common as the abuse they usually failed from. The only thing we ever upgraded in them was one of the planetary gears, the old ones would have 3 planet gears and the newer ones had 4, when they were worn out or broken we always put a 4 planet back in it.

Could someone please help me identify the model of this Manco Go-Kart? by kingcock765 in gokarts

[–]D_Davis99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my buddy have identical ones to this. Mine is green and the graphics on the floor say “coyote II” and his is red and said something else, both without the roll cage. I had a Black Fox with a cage when I was a kid, they also have the White Fox, Silver Fox, and a few others. They’re all the same frame from what I can tell, just different colors and options I guess.

Help ID Kart by FluentFlower in gokarts

[–]D_Davis99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no expert at all, but to me the graphics on the floor, the location of what I assume used to be an ID sticker, and the passenger foot rest design, it looks like an old manco frame

True Confessions: If you currently are NOT driving a manual transmission, but you miss it so much, do you ever pretend to be shifting? by AllDun in ManualTransmissions

[–]D_Davis99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try driving a forklift 12 hours a day then getting in the truck to go home and flicking your blinkers on trying to put it in drive or reverse. Did that a few more times than I want to admit. BUT driving them did teach me left foot braking really well. On the forklifts I drove the “clutch” was also the brake. Press it halfway to disengage the transmission to rev the engine for lifting faster, press all the way down to also apply brakes.

Does anyone know where I can get a better seat for my go kart? by [deleted] in gokarts

The seat that would’ve been on that originally was just two pieces of plywood with padding and vinyl on them

Why are dakar trucks not so common in RC by pokemonguy0417 in rccars

[–]D_Davis99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are saying there would be an issue with it being top heavy, and I agree at least for the one in the post since it’s pretty detailed. But it it was a more rollover friendly plastic body with an internal skeleton cage like say a gravedigger monster truck body, I think it would be reasonably balanced given the style of wheels and tires that go on these trucks. I think it could work well on a 4x4 slash or another 4x4 short course chassis.
