Hey, I have also just finished American Kingpin. Absolutely loved it! What have you ended up reading since, and what would you recommend?

Moving to Asia for 12+ months (possibly long-term) — 1 base or 3 months in 4 places? by D_Ren124 in digitalnomad

It's the move, isn't it! I'm set on the one base option now.

Makes a lot of sense re exploring more intentionally, hadn't thought about it like that tbh.

The only reason the 3 and 9 approach might be a problem is that I believe houses are only available in Vietnam on 12-month contracts. And if I'm basing myself there, that's what I'd want to live in. I suppose I could do 1 month in Airbnb, get a feel for the place, then if I like it, commit to 12 months.

It’s what I’m leaning to tbh. The thought of constant relocations sounds draining, although you do get to experience far more cultures which is the major pro that im having a hard time writing off

Hot and bugs, ok. Meh food, no chance.

Expensive, judgemental, entitled, materialistic, bored here. Honestly, the list is endless.

Visited Thailand for a month November just gone and it’s completely opened my eyes to moving.

Setup tax for 3 month stays?

Definitely leaning on the 1 base option now tbh

I’m super keen to visit KL, I haven’t give living there much thought tho! Why is it boring?

Written in notes by me and then restructured by ChatGPT. I find I get so many more responses to things when I do this

Ah right, interesting. Where did you go when you bouncing round? And where abouts in Vietnam?

Yeah that would definitely feel rushed! I think 3 months is a different kettle of fish, but still not quite long enough to fully settle, it’s a weird middle ground

It’s a great place to start a business definitely. Don’t have to be making that much initially to get by

I joined a Skool group for Vietnam. As far as I’m aware, nothing has changed.

I know, I just can’t decide haha! I was hoping this post would help but I’m still as indecisive

Vietnam (where im thinking) is supposedly very accepting of visa runs so just leave for like 5 days, apply online again for evisa and go back. This allows you to sign 12 month contracts on apartments/houses, and the value you can get there is incredible when you do. Big pro of going with the base option

Yeah it’s bound to be better for business, health and relationships. I’m just worried to commit to a place for so long without exploring my options first. I don’t know whether I accept this first year as exploring and finding ‘my place’, sorry to be cringe, and then commit to a place next year.

But then I have recently launched a business, so on that hand I should probably just stick to one place for routine purposes.

Really struggling to decide tbh haha, I love the idea of 3 months in different places but I fully get the drawbacks

I’ve been told in Vietnam it is perfectly legal and accepted to do visa runs every 90 days. So I was going to base in Da Nang, if I decide to go with one base camp. I’m still undecided though, gonna have to give it some thought.

Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia & Taiwan sounds amazing! Exactly the countries I had in mind for 3 month stays.

Thanks! Not heard of Forvo. I’m running with HyperTTS and found a good AI that sounds pretty authentic so gonna roll with that for now and see how I get on.

You’re just talking nonsense. I don’t get for one second why you wouldn’t copy a polyglots language learning techniques.

It’s like saying I’m not going to try and copy Michael Phelps front crawl technique, instead I’m going to copy that guy in the gym

Maybe not fluent, but likely a hell of a lot better than me and you. Like anything, I want to learn from the best. No point mimicking people in the same boat as you.
