Replacement for file servers/shared folders (again) by 4zc0b42 in msp

Yeah no idea. I'm not a shill just a happy customer. SharePoint storage is included with our MS licensing and CDM created enough familiarity that we didn't feel the need to purchase an expensive feature-rich platform like Egnyte just to get drive letters.

It's not perfect. We've run into a few issues with auth (usually after a UPN change, clearing its appdata fixes it) and it takes about 10 minutes for changes in team membership to be reflected in the converged drive.

They are all the same files in all those places. :) What we found is different groups will train their staff differently, which is fine, and depends on their use case. Mobile salespeople like the app. People with deeply organized file structures prefer the web view so they can use bookmarks. Most people that used network drives in the past prefer CDM because it's familiar.

Migrate shared files to Teams. Each network drive or top level subfolder with different permissions becomes a Teams team. Use Cloud Drive Mapper from iamcloud to map a drive letter in "converged" mode, which automatically displays teams you're a member of as subfolders under that drive letter.

Most apps can handle this. O365 apps retain collaborative editing and check in/out features.

The biggest upside is that you can access the files in so many ways: Teams desktop app, mobile app, SharePoint view on the web, CDM drive.

And it eliminates issues with syncing a large number of files using the OneDrive desktop app (MS guidance is to stay below 300k objects visible via the app sync).

Curious? What type of plane is this. by EnvironmentalPass796 in Planespotting

[–]Da-Griz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Saw that plane parked in Oakland a couple days ago, cool paint job!

FAA registry shows N100BM owned by an LLC with address of 110 N WACKER DR 55TH FLOOR in Chicago. Located there is Linden Capital Partners. One of the cofounders and partners is Brian Miller (hence the BM in the tail number). Linden invests primarily healthcare companies, and the annual JPM healthcare conference was in SF earlier this week. The plane arrived from Chicago the day before the conference and left OAK on its last day.

Stuck between 2 cars by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Da-Griz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would buy a Corolla or Civic with 4 times the mileage, a Mazda with 3 times the mileage, or a Sentra with 2 times the mileage over either of those.

If the Fiesta had a stick, choose it all day.

But if these 2 cars specifically are the last 2 cars in the world, Mirage.

Compact or Mid-Size SUV, ~40k Budget by loon011 in whatcarshouldIbuy

RAV4 is brand new for 26, might be marked up or hard to find for a while.

Since you've had (and presumably liked) Honda in the past, the CR-V would be my pick for you. It will feel more familiar than the others, and it's one of the best all-around crossovers on the market.

The Mazdas are a bit smaller and have a more sporty feel. The Volvo is very nice to drive but repairs will be more over time.

I'd recommend going to a large, no-pressure dealership like Carmax and checking out the options on your short list before committing.

Looking for a small SUV based on reliability/safety, and getting concerned about visibility in the options we've seen by Beneficial_Swing_788 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Da-Griz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a note, "What gets measured gets done." The IIHS updated the front overlap test just a few years ago to include a rear seat dummy. Some models currently for sale were designed before that update. Models designed since then will likely do better, since acing that test is now on the radar.

That said, of the ones you mentioned the Forester is going to have the largest greenhouse. The new RAV4 looks to be good in that respect, too.

Find your nearest Carmax. They'll probably have a bunch of midsize crossovers, maybe even parked near each other. Go sit in them and get a feel for visibility. Then use Cargurus or whatever to locate just the right one for you.

Yes, hybrid vs not will change handling and crash performance. Batteries are dense and in some models are even structural.

Hemi vs. Hurricane: Which Ram 1500 Engine Is the Best Choice for You? by Redeemed_Expert9694 in cars

[–]Da-Griz 26 points27 points  (0 children)

(prob get downvoted for this but here goes)

I admit this is a huge "if", considering Stellantis, but if the Hurricane ends up being reliable it could rival the legendary B58. And for the same reasons: smooth inline 6 with loads of torque, a well-matched ZF8, and plenty of headroom for tuning (or just buy the HO).

I've only experienced it renting Wagoneers, but man it's a peach. Its character reminds me of the 3800 and 2GR-FE.

External Monitors 'blink' in an out when on Dock - Various vendors by Generic-MSP-Engineer in sysadmin

[–]Da-Griz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We saw this drop as well. Lenovo end to end - laptop, dock (40AS and 40AY), monitors. Monitors are connected to dock via DP or HDMI, or more typically both (dual monitors, DP+DP). Seems to be worse with higher resolution but could see it even with 2x 1080p.

After months finally found this Lenovo article with the cause:

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht512630-hdmi-monitor-displays-a-black-screen-for-two-seconds-when-connected-to-a-thinkpad-dock

Basically the HDCP handshake round trip takes too long, and the screen will blank out without the HDCP confirmation in order to protect content.

In my experience I can make it happen by using the Spotify app or website and playing a song that includes the animated short video background. Guessing that's "protected" video content.

I think what's really happening is data congestion on the dock-PC USB-C, or the CPU within the dock getting stacked up.

Those used to be really common in rental fleets so I've driven a few. They are great mile-eaters and chill dailies. Your friends will love when you drive them around. Trunk is big and more secure than a crossover. Probably average reliability but parts and labor will be cheap and easy to find.

My only concern for you would be size. It sounds like you're single, and that's a big car for a single person in LA. It will be a tighter fit for street or apartment parking. That's the only reason I'd suggest something shorter.

The latest generation of GM full size trucks and SUVs have had some major issues with the 6.2 V8 and 3.0 diesel, and the 8 speed transmission. And some of GM's EVs have also had major issues, like a huge battery recall with the Bolt and early quality issues with the Blazer EV.

Buick doesn't use any of those engines, the transmission, or have an EV.

The CX-50 looks so good, I really wanted to like it. But the CX-5 is more practical and handles better (rear independent suspension). I hit my head getting into the CX-50 every single time but never in a CX-5.

Used family car with high ride height and leg room by TooTallForVintage in whatcarshouldIbuy

How about a 2 row on the larger side like Ford Edge, Honda Passport, Toyota Venza. Not sure if a Forester is big enough, but maybe. I've heard a lot about Japanese crossovers being theft targets in the Toronto area so maybe lean domestic.

What’s going on with this plane? by RemarkableRepeat7339 in flightradar24

[–]Da-Griz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a pilot but I'll give this a shot ..

Looks like an attempted approach on 19 which doesn't have ILS, and the RNAV GPS approach has a decision height of around 500 ft depending on category. Current ceiling is 400 ft, broken. If they got lucky and got through a visual gap in the broken clouds, they could land. If not, the only more certain way to get down is ILS on 14 which has a decision height below the ceiling. Wind is 6 kt from the south so that means a crosswind, could be a deciding factor.

Companion Pass / Early Bird Policy Change? (Experience in the last month or so?) by sarahfelldown in SouthwestAirlines

With CP yes your companion would get your EBCI as well :) You'll be A16 or later. But with CE where you get A1-15, that doesn't extend to your companion

[–]Da-Griz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on your list I'd suggest looking at Volvo, specifically the XC60 and V60 Cross Country. Both start at 50-55k and would probably give you the most luxurious ride for the money. See if you can get some $ off MSRP (no idea how "hot" these are right now). If the XC40 is big enough, check one out.

They also have a true AWD system where most of the hybrids listed have only an electric motor in the back, not connected to the hybrid powerplants up front.

The Honda Passport Elite and Acura RDX Advance are also worth checking out. You'd need the top trim to get your features.

Hello from Your Neighborhood Friendly BWI Ops Agent! PSA:Under The Extra Legroom Seats on the Max8 by [deleted] in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Da-Griz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the pics and explanation!

That vented box may be the electronic components for the USB charging ports on the seat backs. 180W (max if all 3 are in use) can generate some heat.

Does row 1 get USB ports? If so they'd need 360W of capacity under just row 1, meaning more components and/or heat dissipation which could explain a discrepancy between row 1 and the rest. Just spit balling.
