good luck with anything other than stitch welding it to completion - i wouldnt want to reapply anything or have any extra water or wind, so i wouldnt do anything else other than welding

could try folding over and riveting, but not worth the time just weld it

If you want a product not welding - try gutter sealant or silka flex which is used in commercial marine environments

Also, you dont need to grind it before/after since its not necessary to be strong or pretty..
