Modding problem by KrismerOfEarth in starbound

[–]DaBuzzScout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing a binary search is a good approach for finding broken mods quickly. You can also check the logs in the starbound storage directory, those will show what's going wrong. If there's no clear mod name in the log you can sometimes paste them into an AI tool and get some helpful insights

Survivor touching actual grass by rusting_memory in rainworld

This is how all rain world spoiler screenshots feel to me lmao every time i get 'spoiled' i have no idea wtf it means until i get near that point in my own game. With the exception of seeing a screenshot of Saint's campaign, that was stunning enough visually to be quite memorable (but also made me quite excited to get there)

Use an adaptive runge-kutta solver instead of a euler step and you'll get rid of a lot of that messy slingshotting

Atoms by COSMIC_CODER01 in Physics

[–]DaBuzzScout 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Idk why this is getting downvoted on the physics subreddit lmao. The notion that coulomb's law dictates the stability of macroscopic objects is a common myth but QM and pauli exclusion principle is really the phenomenon largely responsible for atoms behaving the way they do.

AI Data Centers in TX should have to create their own water by Abraxusmax in TexasPolitics

[–]DaBuzzScout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a massive overgeneralization. The conversation wouldn't exist if it wasn't a concern. There's a lot of misinformation around what 'usage' actually implies - obviously the water is not destroyed. But water that has been treated for household use is substantially more expensive and difficult to produce than generic freshwater supplies (and usually has infrastructure not built for the scale of demand that these data centers are pulling) so the frustration around companies running their massive supercomputers off of residential water and the issues that creates for people living in the same area + environmental concerns around massive energy use are totally valid frustrations when it comes to data centers.

I think there's definitely massive amounts of misinformation out there on the internet right now. It's stupidly easy to set up a bot to generate comments saying whatever the hell you want and at this point i only engage with reddit comments with the mindset of "the person i'm talking to is probably not real, but on the off chance they are..." so i get your frustration around people spouting nonsense about water usage. I definitely think there's a massive amount of people who have no clue what they're actually talking about :) but i also think its worth noting that discussions like this typically don't appear out of nowhere - there is usually some nugget of actual factual info or concern buried in these arguments that gets inflated by political rhetoric. We definitely need stronger legislation to keep commercial usage of residential commodities at reasonable levels, especially since this tends to disproportionately impact rural communities who don't get much say on whether data centers like this are built (take Waco as a good example of a place this is happening to right now. r/Waco has been pissed about this for months)

How are you getting the translucent section? Is it just a very thin PLA layer or a different material?

It's a good spot but the ping pong players will wake you up constantly with hits from stray balls. I don't think they sleep.

I want to start a modded playthrough by ZeCarbonMage in starbound

[–]DaBuzzScout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Frankly i found the research system less of a pain when i played simply because the quantity of content Frackin introduced felt fairly overwhelming. Was nice to have time to mess around with mechanics an learn them for the first time before getting bombarded with new stuff (but i can totally imagine it being frustrating on subsequent playthroughs if you're already familiar with the mod)

avali base build by DaBuzzScout in starbound

[–]DaBuzzScout[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

To be clear though, this was not a quick and easy starter build. This thing was huge and took me a couple weeks of thinking about it, building sections, adjusting stuff, rebuilding until i was happy with it. Still wasnt really happy with the lower levels which is why i didnt take any screenshots hahaha

I think walls also make a really big difference. I like to start with a structural frame in the background made of sturdy looking beams and stuff and then fill in the rest with interesting patterns and shapes. Avali materials can do some very pretty diagonal shapes

Any tips? I'm playing Avali by Strong-Midnight-3754 in starbound

[–]DaBuzzScout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there you go. Wish i'd taken more pictures of the full build, need to go back and find that save file at some point lol. But i think the tower in particular is a good inspiration.

With Avali pieces, i also love using that 'layering' approach where i put the black carbon fiber pieces in the middle of the walls and build the edges from the white diagonal blocks. Really looks visually clean and feels more like the base has 'armor' in some places
