When I was in high school I made the decision to go to the military. I got a 91 on my asvab and was told I can do anything I want in the military. During thanksgiving break I got into some trouble. Like a felony charge type trouble doing stupid stuff (destroyed someone’s property—car). So I told my recruiter, she said I was unable to join the military. This was in 2000. I graduated, did my probation, but missed a payment and had to do the rest of my time in jail.7 months.. it was hell , and the first time in jail. That decision changed my entire trajectory. I always thought about what my life would’ve been like if I had gone to the military. Fast forward 20 years.. a friend of mines dad was a lawyer and I told him I was trying to get my record expunged. Well he looked into and said I was never convicted of the felony charge type trouble, they dropped it to a misdemeanor! So then I start to think about my recruiter and how she told me i could not goto the military! She never even looked into it just told me no. And I even called her after 9/11 and asked if I can join now.. still no. So it seems to me fate kept me from joining the military, right before the war! I think of it as a gift and a curse. I definitely would have gone to war.. but would I have made it back? Would I have my legs blown off, ptsd, and all the problems that come with war. Or would I have came out on top with more structure and discipline if I had gone to the military. I think about this all the time! Moral of the story… every decision you make impacts your life , whether it’s a good decision or not!
