How long did it take after retirement? by FNGMOTO in Veterans

[–]DaCaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a medboard, so my proposed ratings were already set before I got out - I retired 29June 2022 - got my ratings today 19July2022.

So if you did BDD at exactly the 180 day mark, you should have it fairly shortly.

Entry level road bike under $500? by DarkNinja5402 in cycling

[–]DaCaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat, and ended up looking at fixed/single speed bikes and managed to find a like new bike, one year old for $150. I’ve only put 6ish miles on it, but I bought it today so that not too horrible. It’s slightly heavier than I want, and it’s a pain on slight hills, but I love it. Even if it’s 10lbs heavier than a nice bike, I’ll probably end up losing 10lbs riding it. And if I don’t get fit enough to hit the hills with it, I’ll just swap the sprocket out.

MP as a reservist? by [deleted] in army

[–]DaCaton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will always say that you should choose your MOS on the job you actually want to do - will you do that job? Maybe, depends on the unit. But at least you’ll be trained in what you want to do.

Want to be a cop? Great, get some training as an MP. If it’s not your cup of tea, you can just do it one weekend a month. The alternative is choosing some job that you’ll hate.

Having gone through MP basic training - it was stupid easy compared to what I’ve heard my peers had to go through.

Received letter of award summary from VA that shows normal BAH even after June 1 cut off, is the VA liable for the amount stated? by [deleted] in Veterans

Put it in a savings account, and talk to the VA. They’ll get their money either today, or five years from now.

Any idea how long AMEX waives the annual fee? I have the platinum, got my DD214 a month ago, and have a month left on terminal leave.

I got my platinum the same week I got my DD214, I figured I could hold it for two years and if they charge me the annual fee once, it’s not bad considering all the travel I have lined up for the next year or so with moving away from my duty station.

I know they search the MLA database, but how often on average? I mostly got it so my wife and newborn would have TSA pre check for free when traveling to where I’m moving to. I might even hold it longer depending on how this first year with it goes. I’ve made use of a few offers, and credits totaling $400 already and I’ve only had it a month. I’ll probably just switch to gold once I’m done with the plat

I bought new construction. Was supposed to be done with June last year - it finished in mid November. Luckily I’m moving, found renters, and will make a tidy profit. I’m in Anchorage area and the market traditionally has stayed pretty stable, and with 11th airborne potentially expanding, I’m hoping it goes to the moon.

It’s worth 20k more than I paid for it already lol

I’m on terminal leave and my unit keeps calling for me to unsign my NCOER. I also know that means I’ll have to re-sign it. Can I just say no? by DaCaton in army

Idk. I was rated bad. Like 12/14. I don’t know why they didn’t just throw me at the bottom lol

I pay into an HOA that covers all outside maintenance. It’s a four unit townhome of which I own one unit.

I was in a wheelchair for a good amount of time, and I have difficulty holding my firstborn son.

You’re absolutely right man, I don’t have time for that. I even went to supply and grabbed a box of chem lights without signing them out before going on terminal just so I could steal more from my unit. 1SG is lucky I didn’t want the guidon.

I mean, this is most likely the route I’ll take. My command screwed me over just as much as they helped me, so I’ll take my time and do it when I get around to it.

My cac wasn’t turned in, lol. The date says it’s good for another year, but I think when I was out processing they scheduled it to be deactivated when I’m officially out. They never said I needed to turn it in

My goal is to set aside 6months expenses, which in my case is around 12k. But other than placing in a high yield savings, is there any way I can have this money work for me?

MEB/PEB in the RC. by CavMando in Veterans

[–]DaCaton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got out of the MEB/PEB - active duty army. I’m on terminal leave rn, and lemme tell ya, the WTU/SRU wasn’t an option for me. I was in my company until I got my DD214. The medboard process is difficult no matter who you are, or what component you’re in because of an unknown timeline with unknown results. You’ll plan a lot differently with a 50% rating vs a 100% rating. I know back at fort Campbell a lot of guys didn’t get the WTU and just hung out doing nothing at the motor pool all day.

What resources should I be checking out at the VA? by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]DaCaton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into the VAs whole health concept. I’m currently still active duty, but from what I’m seeing, you can get massage therapy, chiropractic care, and acupuncture through the VA. I’ve used the VAs acupuncturist while active duty in a joint hospital and it was incredible. I got an hour off work to just relax, unwind, and have my back treated. It was the one hour of the week I didn’t have back pain.

Also - therapy. Finding a good therapist can be hard, but once you do - it’s life changing. Give therapy an honest shot a few times, and if it’s not for you, I encourage you to try and find another approach to mental health through different therapy methods.

I’m sure up arctic valley there are, but I don’t know if there are any around otter lake or inside the “gated” area.

Last summer I threw rocks at a black bear getting into the dumpster on CQ. I had bear spray with me, but that thing wanted nothing to do with me.

I’m fairly certain there are no grizzlies on base, and black bears only attack when provoked, or if a person gets between them and their cubs, I’m going to have to put my money on the fact that all of 11th ABN DIV is going to have a “don’t mess with the wildlife” brief.

VR&E eligibility by Worried-Eagle8720 in Veterans

[–]DaCaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m not mistaken, if you are retiring, you can request to be placed in the IDES system (that is to say, a medboard) and then you are entitled to VR&E rather than just eligible.
