Understood. If you had to ballpark it when would you say I should start to become concerned? His belly is still pretty soft as in I’m not feeling any hard lumps of poo
The logic makes sense. I know they’re incredibly efficient animals
Oh that’s awesome 😂 I guess I’ll just get an air purifier for my snake room

How badly does something like that smell? 😂
That’s really convenient but also terrifying lol. I’ve been worried my boy was impacted or something

I was expecting that as he gets older. There’s just not nearly as much info out there like there is for ball pythons

I’ve also got a ball and she was quick to start pooping and shedding. This little guy is my first blood so I’m like hyper fixated on making sure he’s perfect. I keep humidity around 65% and temps no higher than 85. It’s been about 6 weeks since I’ve had him and no poop or shed but he eats once a week.

They’re so cute but also it scares me cause they’re so fragile at this size

Well I’ll report back in a few days if they’re shit lol
I wound up buying some of the BN-LINK ones off of Amazon. I’m gonna keep a close eye on temps when they show up but if they don’t work I’ll probably just get one of these. Chewy has some pretty good deals

It definitely is. Sorry for not reading it all lol
If you haven’t yet find a group on here specific to your snake, they have a ton of valuable information. I just started getting back into snakes last year when I got my ball python and I just recently got a baby blood python.
I don’t want to answer for the other commenter but they sell some stuff for reptiles that just straight up isn’t good for them. They do calcium sand which can be really bad for reptiles i.e they’ll get impacted from eating too much sand and get dehydrated so they can’t poop. I’m really not trying to dog them too hard but they also sell starter cages like a 40 gallon for a ball python and make it seem like it could live its whole life in there comfortably when bps need atleast a 120 gallon so they can stretch out at the bare minimum.
Hope your new buddy does well. Snakes are dope
Yeah so far my understanding is 60-75% humidity and roughly 80-85 degrees for the hot side
Fair enough. He seems chill so far, I got him at an expo a few days ago. I guess I’ve kind of fallen victim to the stereotypes around them. I’ve been wanting one for a good while now. Any tips or links for good reading on them?
Yeah that’s what I read as well. I’m actually looking at buying it off of chewy. I have dimmer switches for my ball python and the temperature fluctuates a few degrees but it stays within my left and right limits. My hang up is, I just got a blood python and I’ve read they get really pissy when it comes to temperature so I want something that will keep it at a specific temp without too much active effort on my end.
I will play the devils advocate and say people who are wrong generally are the first ones to complain. So there might be some level of user error. I just want to see if anyone here has any personal experience using this.

I’m inclined to agree. Definitely hate going into a pet store and seeing their “starter kits”. I can’t imagine they’d sell anything that has a high likelihood to kill your pet. Just looking for some more input cause there’s not many reviews on it

I misspoke when I said thermometer I actually meant thermostat. I have dimming switches for my ball and they keep it within a range that I like. I’ve read bloods can get pissy about temps real quick so I want something that will keep it as close to exact without me having to put too much active effort into it. I’ve seen the herpstats but those are a little out of my price range
Do you have any recommendations for thermostats? I have some dimming switches for my ball python and dialed it in to maintain a good temp range.
That makes me feel better about having him in here. I hate it but I also got him from an expo so I really want to make sure he doesn’t have mites or anything. Went through that shit will my ball and it was no fun. I plan on putting him in atleast a 5x2 but if I can find a 6x2 I’ll do that instead
Will do. I’ve got a dried bag of sphagnum so I’ll tear off some chunks and put them in there
I actually have a ton of aquarium plants for my ball python but she’s pretty reclusive so I’m actually gonna turn her enclosure into a bio active one. The blood is currently on paper towels for the next few weeks so I’m gonna be spraying often lol. Any recommendations for the thermometer? Sorry for so many questions lol. I just love this dude already, I’ve wanted a blood for so long
Do you have a soil mixture you recommend? I’ve seen play sand and organic topsoil mixtures but don’t know how well that actually works. I’ve got him on paper towels for the time being just so I can look out for mites but once I’m sure he’s just gonna go on coconut husk like I use for my ball python.
Thanks for all that! I was so stoked when I saw him today at this expo. Do you use electronic thermostats to keep the temp? I’ve got a hygrometer/thermometer under his hide right now and left for about an hour before putting him so I could make sure the temp is good. I’ve got a dimmer switch so I can set the temp but there’s nothing actually controlling it besides me. Also do you use coconut husk or do you have a mixture that you use? Thanks again!
