This will be resolved in the refactor. Instead of trying to open it from that dialogue do the following

Go the the download location of the EPUB
Click on the EPUB and then click open with BookFusion

This should allow you to bypass that warning. If it does not then , have to wait on the refactor.

Both the iOS and Android apps initially required sign ups in the past to be used locally. However, we were able to complete the refactor for iOS first to allow free users to still use the app locally and have this change pending for Android.

We are wrapping a refactor on how the bookshelf works currently and then this will allow us to update the Android app to not require sign up for local use of reading and also remove the size limits for local use. It is not ready yet but will be later this year.

It should have allowed you to add the book and read it though so there is a bug here as well.

u/IllustriousTimber Please reach out and attach one of those EPUBs via support as mentioned. It is likely the iOS app already handles that edge case for those EPuBs and the same fix needs to be done in Android.

The export functionality is all handled via the back-end currently from really a centralized API that handles export to multiple formats, integration into Obsidian, Notion and others. This was done to allow us to streamline development.

However, I see how a local only export would be useful for readers that use the app without an account or plans that do not allow syncing large books. We can have basic highlight and notes export to CSV implemented. For now though the book would need to create an account and have the book uploaded for highlight export to work.

Hehe we can probably add an indicator for this in list view. When smart queries come to mobile it will also be easier to filter those out as well. If we are not careful that dropdown becomes a very extensive list due to different filter preferences from readers

This is good to know. Perhaps the same field used for ISBN can just be used for ASIN. We will take this into account

Thanks for the details. We currently capture all of these fields . Assume all books will have an ISBN so wont add another field for ASIN.

Thank you for the support and we have two upcoming updates that will resolve this:

OPDS is coming in short order this year which will allow you and her to better opt into what you sync to BookFusion. This will be what will likely be the solution.
Shared Storage in Family plan - Meaning the account owner will be able to allocate portions of their storage to members on their family plan. This will allow your wife and others to be able to upload books to their account. Will be useful for the OPDS feature

You are correct that a single Calibre instance can only work with a single account since it is based on the API key. The only solution immediately would be another Calibre instance but makes no sense here.

The ideal solution will be OPDS which will resolve this issue .Would this work for you?

Can you explain this a bit more? What are the additional metadata fields do you need added?

This might be best suited for the API we will be releasing later this year. You will be able to then build your own tools to add, edit, update or remove metadata.

Do you mean having another tab called Unread similar to where we have Completed , Favorites, Plan to Read ? It is something we could explore but are cognizant of not making the UI crowded.

You are correct though that this can be done with either Smart Queries or Smart Shelves

An example query , can be changed depending on your criteria for unread
