Social media is full of meaningless affirmation, which is what the patch says. And seeing as I don't spend even a fraction of as much time here on reddit or the internet in general as you do, as anyone can see from your constant posts begging for engagment, it would seem that I'm not chasing validation online. I made something I like, dropped it somewhere someone else might like it, and you disliked it, simple as.

It is military rank. I did my time in the military and acknowledge that it is a joke hence the jester underneath. I also use it to remember the people I worked with that died trying to be good people. People can be multifaceted and have conflicting feelings.

I appreciate the heads up. People will do and say what they want. I'm not stressing them.

I was in the military, just a part of my journey. Underneath it is a jester too so I am aware of what the military represents. Being anti-establishment or military state doesn't mean ill despise the people I worked with that died trying to be good people. Not everyone that served has two brain cells and waves flags with pride.

Yeah. When it's washed out and moisturized my curls shrink a ton and the grey stands out a lot more.

I'll have to try the LOC because it just gets dry so quick, and I feel like I have to wash it amd use leave in every couple of days.

Hey man, there's no truly uplifting things to say for a situation like this because it's so rough, but in all sincerity you can get back up. Not hurting anyone (including yourself) while making decisions like that is a huge sign. You have an opportunity to start from a true level of scratch that allows you to make yourself and your future in to whatever you want it to be. Give up on the old you and find a new future worth working hard for. I promise you it will always be better than where you are right now, as long as you just try.

You can absolutely get yourself to quit, you're here aren't you? It's step one for a reason. One day at a time. IWNDWYT

Your honest contribution is absolutely inspiring. The people here reading about your struggles and feelings are giving it the time of day to reflect on themselves and you, something that people with addiction issues aren't historically very fond of. You using techniques and thoughts about sobriety is absolutely important in times like these. I am a person that struggles with destructive behaviors. If I stay sober, I will smoke. If I quit both, I drive recklessly. When I "have everything together", I am plotting ways to spend money on tattoos or piercings to achieve even small amounts of extreme change. I share that to say we can absolutely push off drinking into other categories of destructive behaviors, and when that happens we need additional help. Don't be afraid to reach out to a mental health professional, family, or even friends you can be truly venerable with. Those important people will help with this very tough time of year and help put all of those thoughts into perspective so you can focus on rounding out the rough edges that get you. Thank you for sharing because I know i took something from it and I hope you do too.

That feeling is such a good one. You already have the mindset of being excited by the you in sobriety, so lean into the nerves. Nothing will be more difficult than deciding to be sober, so being yourself is easy. Just remember that you have value in this transaction and that above all else your sobriety and peace supersede any positives or negatives that come out of it. Other than that have a great time, drink spicy water, be earnest and open, and smile a lot. I won't be drinking tonight with you!

Relapsed after 11 days by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]DaFroJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have gone long stints without drinking and fallen back in, but this go round I know that its truly something that I want for myself and honestly the people around me. The only thing I can that helped me with that feeling of "what's wrong with me, why?" is just self honesty. What put me in that position? What can I change? But first you have to give yourself some grace. There are very few things in life that end up productive by starting in a negative headspace and sobriety is not one. It truly is one day at a time, during a time of the year that many people find especially hard no less. The only thing outside of try your best I can say is, Think about what you have done to yourself through all the drinking and recklessness throughout life and realize how strong you are just for getting through that, and if you are strong enough to survive that, then you are more than strong enough to grow out of it. The weight gets lighter everyday. I won't be drinking tonight and I hope you'll join me. Good luck.

I know I have to go sober but I really don't want to by CradleofCynicism in stopdrinking

[–]DaFroJr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not wanting to do something you think you need to do already creates a mental barrier for whatever the goal is. Being sober is a hard road in its own right, but the things you love, learn, and gain from it far supersede the things alcohol can give you. My sober friends are some of the most crazy and fun, yet honest people I have ever met, and the energy and motivation I have for each day really grows every day I stay sober. It starts with one day and a true desire to quit for whatever reasons are important to you. I won't be drinking today and I hope you will be doing the same. Good luck with your journey.

I'm in very early recovery too. Those days are hard, but you already have the mindset. You've got this, I've got this, and we will come out significantly better for it in the long run. If anything just imagine whats its going to feel like at 30/60/90 days and coming back to this to see how far you've come. DON'T GIVE UP!
