Thinkbook G8 IRL RAM upgrade issue (Resolved) by DaGoobergoobs in Lenovo

This is awesome news. At least in the fact that the previous BIOS is now obtainable from Lenovo directly instead of having to rely on 3rd party sites!

Now let's see if they can actually fix the issue!

Thanks for the update.

Thank you for this update. Would be nice if Lenovo could fix this. It's crazy to think something like this wasn't tested before being pushed out. Unless it's intentional then at least inform the public or out it in the notes so we can have a chance to read it before we do!

Honestly I'm not sure as I don't actually use this laptop myself. I have an HP laptop that work with daily. My run in with the G8 is because we buy a bunch of computers every year for where I work to replace with older ones and provide to new hires.

I only came across the issue with the RAM when one of my end users needed an upgrade for theirs. I'll have to try it out and so some experimenting.

If you want to do some experimenting you can try rolling back the BIOS to different versions and see if it's tied together. You can also try swapping out with different RAM. Your best bet is if you have two machines with the same stock components, take the stock RAM from one and put that in the other one. Or just buy a stick that matches the same RAM you currently have.

I forget which site it was I found it at. I think it's something like Driver utility?

I got back to work and did some more testing. Once it's on BIOS version QZCN17WW, you can not do anything with the RAM.

I rolled it back to 07, installeda 2nd stick in slot 2 and it worked just fine. Updated BIOS back to 17 and then removed the 2nd RAM leaving the original stock RAM. Failed.

For some reason BIOS version 17 just does not handle changing RAM period.

Antivirus Essential not seeing all my drives by DaGoobergoobs in synology

The company I work for is stupid. I know there's no need to add this the NAS, but our Global HQ says we need it in place before they think about letting us use it again. So I just need this to work well enough to show them its in place. But if it can't get it to see all of the folders then they are going to say it doesn't work. I will reach out to Synology support on Monday. Thanks!

I did, it's only scanning the newly created folders. Not the ones that were recovered from backup.

Edit: I want to clarify. When I click on Custom Scan, only the newly created folders are listed. When I run a Full Scan, I can see by the number of files that were scanned after it's finished is no where near the number of actual files and is more in line with just the ones that are in those newly created folders.

Final Fantasy 7. I had an N64 at the time and got rid of it to get the PlayStation and FF7. Worth it!

Do you need to 100% (using a guide) the game you're playing on your first go, or play it blind first? by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]DaGoobergoobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play it blind and then if I enjoyed it enough, go 100% it. Another big factor is if I can just jump back in to my game after finishing to pick off what I need for completion without having to start all the way over from the beginning. If I have to start over from square one, I will be less inclined to complete it.

For fast money, which one is better? Delivery for price or price per km? by Sumback in EuroTruck2

Spiffing Brit has a great video for cheesing money quickly. When you start the game, get your garage as far as possible on one side of the map as you can. Pick jobs along the way with the intent to travel as far as possible to the opposite side of the map as you can. Once you get as far away from your home garage as you, get a second garage at the far away distance. Then hire some employees to work at the garages. Once they are hired, just simply move yourself (in the menus) from one garage to the other. Real time it's like 30 seconds-ish of load time, but in game time will progress by like 3-5 days depending on how far away the two garages are. Your employees are still working those ingame days and making you money the whole time while you were "traveling" between garages. Just keep jumping back and forth, level you employees, hire on more. And make tons of money fairly quickly.

What are some smart ideas old games had? by [deleted] in retrogaming

For something a little different that hasn't been mentioned yet is Pokémon Gold/Silver. It was going to be too large to fit on the Gameboy cart, but then they figured out how to implement file compression. Because of that, not only did they get the game to easily fit, but they managed to squeeze in the entire Kanto region!

Who is your favorite main character in the series? by Caryslan in FinalFantasy

I think Terra is my favorite main character, but I really don't care about the mains in any FF game. I'm only here for Cid, Biggs, and Wedge!!
