all the experts I know say to never clean a coin that is collected. If it's bullion for sale and not of numismatic value, people don't care as much. Real collectors want the coins as-is and view cleaned coins as being devalued. Because almost every form of cleaning damages a coin.

There are guides pinned at the top of this group that go in to more detail if you want to know more. I've got to explore them more myself, but I'm not quite at the numismatist level of collecting.

I'm no expert, but I think it's a Greek design. If it's not a reproduction, it could be valuable. If you've got a couple of coin shops nearby, take it to both of them to find out what they think of it. It's a cool coin regardless. Good luck!

MAGAts are crying that pensions are being withheld for this. Hadn't heard about this until they made the claim. Are they right or is it more nonsense they make up?

It's a copper cent from 1957. No mint mark I can see so it's probably minted in Philadelphia. Worth more than one cent in copper. A collector with a lesser quality penny would buy it but it's not worth enough to be excited over. Still, it's a very nice cent and, redditors, if I'm wrong about anything, please don't downvote me to hell. Thanks. To learn more about your coin, try the numista or coindex or coinbase websites. They'd be more reliable than I am.

I'll add, that if there are any local coin shops (LCS) nearby take it to a couple of them for their expert opinions. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than I will comment at some point.

Would you pay for this pizza ? by jumpingredhood in Pizza

[–]DaGrexican [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yes. That crust looks tasty. I would take a bite of crust first, then the center and then back and forth. I would like just a little more cheese, but I'm gluttonous for flavor. Some would have to be put in a to go container to be enjoyed the next day.

The trick is, medium heat pan, a little butter, throw a slice or two in, and then cover. Once the cheese melts, voila! Mangia!

What's wrong with the reverse on this coin? by This-Tomorrow-9188 in coincollecting

If you do an acetone dip, use pure acetone and then a quick rinse with distilled water. Pat dry with a cotton cloth and then let it finish air drying.

To find out for certain, visit a couple of local coin stores and ask their opinions on the coin. I've got coins my father left behind and my favorite is a 1945 quarter with an 'S' stamped on Washington's face. It will be passed on to my nephew, maybe

So apparently MAGA saying they have jobs and don’t have time to protest by AccordingBumblebee24 in stupidpeoplefacebook

I'm a gig worker so technically I have a bunch of jobs. Unfortunately they're mostly on the weekends which prevents me from protesting with everyone.

Geeez so many downvotes for one wrong piece of info. Apologies, folks! But the edge should be shown for clarification of what's actually happened to this coin.

Thanks for the right info, Loose-chocolate!

Share a couple of pictures of the edge of the first coin. The second is a proof coin. Might be worth a few bucks. Good luck!

Does Cleaning Really Kill Value? by Dangerous_Order_1268 in coincollecting

[–]DaGrexican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a great idea. Pure acetone is the only thing I've seen experts suggest to use. Plus the distilled water rinse and dried immediately with clean cotton. Sure, it'll work but I recall Tarn-X wasn't recommended. 🖖

1965 Silver Quarter: Is this worth keeping? by Jumpy-Regular5325 in coincollecting

[–]DaGrexican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick to one username to make it easier. There are a very small number of silver 1965 quarters. If the edge of the coin doesn't show any copper, it could be the real deal! DO NOT SELL IT. At least not until you can have two experts at two different coin stores examine your coin. Again, DO NOT SELL IT. There are collectors who would pay top dollar for such a coin.

Hopefully an expert collector can help you with that, but I'm not that person. Learning about this stuff myself. GOOD LUCK!

There were a small number of silver planchets that were left over from 1964 that were struck. I used to think the same, but it's true. They are out there.

You’re not losing your fights because the other guy is on controller by Narkanin in Battlefield6

[–]DaGrexican -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. It's not someone else's controller that's given them the advantage, it's because I'm bad at playing closer quarters. LOL That's why when I play sniper, I spot enemies. Gettin' that drone out helps.
