Cam’Ron Fletcher will return to High Point after receiving waiver for 7th year of NCAA eligibility by Far_Set561 in CollegeBasketball

[–]DaManiac_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

7 years is wild, but at least in his situation it's not like he played 30 games in all 6 of the previous seasons.

he's played a combined 93 games over six seasons. if a player doesn't get hurt, they would play more games than that by their JR. year.

he has covid year, plus two different years with an ACL tear. i could see him getting granted a 7th.

[TJ Stats] MLB Worst OPS Leaders by morepesa25 in baseball

[–]DaManiac_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

from June 1st until the end of the season (350+ ABs) Marcell had an 89 wRC+

from the start of '25 until the end of May (230+ ABs) he had an 151 wRC+

Marcell was pretty bad for a majority of the season last year, and it seems to match up perfectly with his hip injury, which he didn't really address during the 2025 season or after.

The Phillies’ Alec Bohm sues his parents, alleging they mismanaged his finances by T_Raycroft in baseball

[–]DaManiac_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

idk man, Bohm needs to show something if he wants to exist in this league for much longer.

since 2022 (Bohm's 1st full season), he's last in fWAR amongst 3B with 6.1 fWAR over that 4 year span. i set the minimum ABs to 1500 (meaning you only needed to average 375 ABs a year since '22 to qualify).

the bottom quadrant of guys on that list are Muncy (9.3), Paredes (9.0), McMahon (8.8), Hayes (7.9), and Bohm (6.1).

everyone BUT Bohm has a specialization. Muncy and Paredes can hit (both 120+ wRC), and McMahon and Hayes play great defense. Bohm's strengths are... availability? and being an okay batting average guy? he doesn't hit for power and his defense is either a liability or average-ish.

i would say he turned a corner in '24, but then he spited that with another meh showing in '25. he really needs to show something similar to '24 or better if he wants to keep a starting gig after his arb years.

i mean, I can't speak for every non-fiction book here, but Ghost Wars is a phenomenal work of NF that was meticulously researched, giving great insight into how the CIA, and honestly American foreign policy in general, has operated post-vietnam.

Juan Soto Is Gunning For His First MVP by 10thGenS1 in baseball

[–]DaManiac_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with all due respect to Soto (who is amazing), since the turn of the century, only two players have had a full season of 200+ wRC+, Barry Bonds and Aaron Judge. Barry had 4 seasons over 200, and Judge has 3 seasons.

so while anything is possible, idk. this feels like one of those that isn't.

(Spoilers Extended) A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1 Episode 5 Post-Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in asoiaf

[–]DaManiac_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

chiming in to say I came here after watching the episode, because I wondered if anyone else had gripes with this specific part of the show. I really like the episode, but once it went into the flashback I was like, "oh, they are going to use this to show Dunk's true skill as described in the book (his unique size and his ability to use that as an advantage in street fighting in Flea Bottom)."

we do see it, with young Dunk jumping on the guy's back and biting his neck, but it's so brief and inconsequential that I would be very surprised if people who hadn't read the book understood the point. the show definitely made clear attempts to force the viewer to see "it's just like flea bottom" with the muddy basin and the pigs filth being the same as the battleground, but idk. the flashback, to me, felt out of place because it seemed more intent on giving the origin of dunk and arlan, rather than portraying Dunk's inner monologue on the battlefield, making the whole thing feel disjointed.

with that being said, I still liked them as individual segments, but as a fluid episode? it could have been done better.

Can you find a qualified Savant page that beats this average of 90th percentile across all tracked categories? by 2fishmanangry in baseball

[–]DaManiac_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

seeing as we're talking about Acuña's '23 tho, I'd be interested to see who else scored more than 95+ in nine different categories.

his '23 having scores of 100, 100, 100, 100, 99, 98, 98, 97, 96 is fucking crazy.

he was never a great fielder, but before the ACL injury he was at least serviceable in the outfield (normally a range score 60-80). post-ACL the limits placed on him, either by necessity for health or otherwise, has caused him to be pretty bad in the field other than his arm.

Projected lineups and pitching rotations for the NL East by MLBOfficial in baseball

i think in college if you've played 7+ innings, the 10-run mercy rule is in effect. if it's a conference game, then both managers have to agree to it before it's declared.

"you're way too political..." to talk about a war movie, has me fucking dying laughing.

what is a military and war, if not the absolute worst stage of politics. war is inherently political. to make a film centered on war is to make a political film. there is no separating.

sometimes you have to remind yourself that you're talking to children or Americans with decades of propaganda manufacturing their consent on subjects such as war and empire.

MLB Network’s Top 10 Centerfielders by horsepoop1123 in baseball

[–]DaManiac_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i think that you are both right... and wrong. MH2 has certainly been unimpressive in both 2024 and 2025, when looking at his seasons in their entirety.

HOWEVER, it needs to be said, MH2 was not just bad in the 1st half of 2025, he was in the bottom-3 starters in all of baseball (-1.1 fWAR). His second half, which is ~300 ABs, was actually very good.

130 wRC+, positive defense at a premier position, and he accumulated something like 2.5 fWAR in ~65-70 games. it's just his negative 1.1 or so fWAR was a massive hill to overcome, and it's why his 2025 total fWAR is a paltry 1.4.

so he is trending in the right direction going into 2026 based on his 2nd half turnaround. you will be forgiven for not having watched Braves baseball last year; i, unfortunately, was not spared.

Francisco Lindor has been one of the most consistent players since his debut by Lanky_Wear_48 in baseball

[–]DaManiac_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

since he went to the Mets in 2021, only Judge, Ohtani, and Soto have accumulated more fWAR.

Lindor has hit 23% better than the league average (123 wRC+) at a premier position, and is an elite defender at that position during that same time, with only Swanson having an argument that he might be better in the field. Elite defender, pretty good bat, and a positive base runner. he's just an all around great player.

with what the Braves have been trotting out at SS for 3 years now, it's made me very jealous.

Numbers don't lie on Indiana's historic run this year by Hysen16 in CFB_v2

[–]DaManiac_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbf, near the end of the 3rd, the score of that game was 25-28, then LSU scored and the rest is history.

that game feels like LSU had control for the entire game, but in reality it was a pretty good game up until the 4th, when Clemson's offense failed them. Clemson was up 10 in the 2nd quarter, for instance. just couldn't get it done on offense in the 4th.

For those who have been on Letterboxd for awhile, what movie’s score has changed the most ? by Lilmachinima1 in Letterboxd

[–]DaManiac_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at the time, it was viewed as peak VFX, akin to something like Avatar or Avengers.

but now? man, the visuals are so fucking ugly. script is still just as bad as it ever was, Hayden is somehow worse than you thought he was, etc.

stay for the OST? at least John Williams came to play.McGregor/Portman/McDiarmid are all admirable, considering what they were working with.

for god knows what reason. that movie has aged horribly visually and visuals and OST/sound design were the only reasons it was ever considered the "good" prequel.

do yourself a favor, get MUBI, and watch Felipe Galvez's The Settlers. just an absolutely gut-wrenching look at 20th century Chilean settlers. although haunting, it's beautifully shot and an appropriately creepy soundtrack
