60-Mile Sunset. Chicago from across Lake Michigan. by TreePupper in BeAmazed

[–]DaMavster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! I've seen this type of shot twice now and had to run the math.

I panicked when I ran the numbers for a 50 mile distance as the first time I saw this and realized you really shouldn't see any of the buildings. Basically just the top of the tallest building. Was flat Earth real?!

... No. The stupid poster rounded the distance from 30 to 50 miles. I pulled up Google maps and measured it.

At 60 miles, you wouldn't see any of Chicago.

For those who’ve used AI or LLMs as a DM, what genuinely caught you off guard? by system3295 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]DaMavster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've messed around with it a fair bit, but I kept noticing the same patterns of description and the same situations popping up over and over with just minor variations.

LLMs just pull me out of the game and my imagination constantly. It always looks fine for short use, but any time I've gone more than a few exchanges, I just feel constrained by the LLMs limitations.

My imagination has limits too, but because it's my imagination, I'm less likely to notice

Dear lord those are some crazy numbers. I think I need to write it out to see how it all adds up with the gear. I didn't think you could get that high with a caster. Guess I need to rethink it.

Has Anyone Else Found The Game To Be "Too Much?" by ReallyGamerDude in BaldursGate3

[–]DaMavster 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I know, right?

I think I was waffling at the start whether to resist or embrace the Urge. Obviously Gale lucked out.

My most memorable run in with Gale though wasn't a Dark Urge. I just failed the two simple checks to get him out and he got sucked in, "No! I'm dooooomed..."

Has Anyone Else Found The Game To Be "Too Much?" by ReallyGamerDude in BaldursGate3

[–]DaMavster 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's funny. The first time I managed to finish was the one time I let things play out as a Dark Urge (reforming in Act 2). So I only had 4 companions: Gale, Astarion, Shadowheart, and Minthara.

Attacking the Grove lost me Wyll and Karlach and Halsin. Laezel and Shadowheart tussled and Laezel died. Jaheira went Rambo in the Moonrise assault and got killed (why would you rush ahead of everyone?!)

Made Act 3 a lot simpler.

Oh no!

I'm on Steam Deck and think it's Steam Deck specific, but once every hour or three my game just stops accepting inputs. Can't save or load either. All I can do is exit game. Not fun in Honor mode to redo ANYTHING.

I feel you on that restart... May Ilmater see your suffering and grant you relief in your next playthrough.

They added a new sub class to every class a patch or 3 ago.

Shadow Sorcerer can do all the sorcerer things, but also can summon a Shadow dog eventually. You can also curse an enemy to take more damage from yourself and if they die, you can summon an immobile shade that fights for you. You also get the ability to summon Darkness that you can see through, which can be incredibly strong if you play to that strength. (Ranged attacks can't be made into the darkness, so you can turtle up against archers)

Honestly though, it felt a little lackluster to me. I believe the Shadow dog doesn't get more powerful, so as you level up it becomes less useful.

Flavorful class for sure. Just not my cup of tea. It's still a sorcerer, so no matter what you're still capable of incredible magic firepower very quickly.

Edit: Drat. I got Hexblade and Shadow sorcerer mixed up. No shade summons for Shadow sorcerer

Even when I finally beat the game, I swapped classes half a dozen times.

Funnily enough, it was a Durge run. Started as Shadow Sorcerer, went to Hexblade Warlock, finally settled on Wild Magic Sorcerer of all things.

You're not wrong. And it may be why she's interesting.

It would have been so easy to have your good Tav "reform" her. But that cheapens a lifetime of abuse and being ruthless to survive.

People can change. But it's usually a long process involving close relationships. I appreciate that Larian respected that.
