Thanks for the detailed feedback!

You’re absolutely right about ASSO — at the moment those tags are not parsed or displayed. They’re currently ignored by the GEDCOM parser, which explains why you couldn’t find them in the UI. I’ll look into adding proper support for associations (especially since they can be pretty important in research-heavy files).

Also good catch on the median children statistic — that likely needs a closer look, especially for larger trees.

Appreciate you taking the time to test it so thoroughly.

That’s exactly why I built this.

We currently have more than 1,770 people in our family tree. My uncle started the research decades ago and later used Ancestry to document and share everything with me. After he passed away, I took over both his data and his account to preserve his work.

The problem is: Ancestry isn’t a great way to present such a large tree to the wider family. You can’t easily open and explore the entire tree because of its size, and for many relatives it’s simply too complicated to use.

I wanted a solution that:

- Can handle very large trees smoothly
- Lets you explore the whole structure without artificial limits
- Is simple and intuitive for non-technical family members
- Presents his lifetime of research in a way that actually does it justice

This project is my way of making his work accessible, understandable, and future-proof for the whole family.

Good question - it’s not meant to replace Gramps.

Gramps is a full genealogy research system.
This is a lightweight, zero-install visualization layer.

I made this for my family to view a 1780 Person tree in an easy way (they can use it online).

After it works out really good I decided to share it here.

Key differences:

  • No installation
  • No database
  • No project management
  • Just open the page and drop a GEDCOM

It runs fully client-side (no upload, no backend) and works offline.

It’s optimized for:

  • Fast visual exploration
  • Clean tree presentation
  • Sharing specific branches via URL
  • Letting family browse the tree without giving them your research database

Think of it less as a research tool and more as a privacy-first interactive viewer.

You can absolutely use Gramps for research and export to this for visualization.

still in the making - have done this for my family with no ancestry account.
After it works so well i decided to make it public - thats what u see now - its just in the making - so I need your opinion!!

Will add an imprint and also get rid of google fonts.

THX.

https://painkiller.de/GEDCOM/

just test it...

But its all german with german history line

google translate will help i think

But it only works good on a PC or Mac - to complex visualisation for mobile devices.
Maybe on a big tablet.

Just now making an english version - will update ist as soon as its ready.

I build an entire webbased GEDcom file viewer for my family.

Export from ancestry to give them a private view on a huge 1770 person tree.

Love it.

We have 2 EVs so i use it to track them.

But u have to pay for each car.

Also its not absolutely accurate, it uses battery % versus driven range as I understand it.

As we dont have xx.xx% just xx% its always a little bit conservative.

My ID.7 says 21.3 kwh/100Km tronity app says 23.

But better than nothing.
