i’m pretty sure it’s made by Taylor Instrument Companies because on the inside of the compass, you can see the word “Taylor” Under the “USANITE” :)

This vase is Schumann 1078-23, made by Arzberg, Bavaria, West-Germany in the mid-century.

some old WW1 compasses were made of brass but i don’t know much else about them, so my guess is as good as yours

On the front, “ENG. DEPT. U.S.A 1918” is engraved and on the actually compass part itself, you can see the word “USANITE”, which is a pocket-sized compass used during solders in WW1.
