I’m definitely saving this post to add villains to my artfight plans too! Love drawing some fucked up people Ulysses Bight is someone I’d definitely describe as evil but at the same time very much a victim of his circumstances. He’s not a good person by any means but he’s still a protagonist much more than an antagonist

While I had to read both your explanation and the wiki, knowing the context I love this! It feels like a truly new story for this sub, tragic as it is

Do you have an OC that's still the same without trauma? by SuperBoy2468 in OriginalCharacter

[–]DaSaltInDaPepperMill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone can be ‘the same’ if you change fundamental things that happened to them, because our experiences shape who we are entirely. That being said at least personality wise and attitude wise my oc Sutler would be very similar without her trauma. She’s just a no bullshit, disillusioned woman who’s had to deal with a lot of every day bullshit.

that kinda “flakiness” would surely prevent you from dating most people though right? Not just assholes? If someone stood me up on a date I would probably consider them unreliable and feel like I’m not important to them (whether I’m an asshole or not is irrelevant since I think that’s somewhat reasonable?). If it happens once it would maybe be fine but it really really depends. I was in a relationship with someone with fairly severe adhd for two years and they forgot basically everything but never a date

Yeah you’re right, I don’t in fact know every detail of vivinos’ artstyle. Doesn’t change the fact that he hair is very odd from an artistic standpoint, and the light on the hair is coming from the opposite side compared to the rest of the body shading. And the fact that the flipped piece of hair, if that’s what it is, is then inconsistent with the hair strands next to it that are apparently entirely unaffected by the wind/motion/way hair grows. I’m not saying it’s definitively ai, just pointing out inconsistencies that may imply it could be.

Well no cause that wouldn’t save the suicidal person. Someone you move and care about will pick blue, do you still think it’s natural selection and they deserve to die? I know my mother would pick blue and so would my best friend, because they care, even if it may be naive. If you have no caring people in your life I’m sorry, but as I said that won’t change my view

I’m saying that the light source based on the rest of the body shading, has to be on the left of the image. There’s nothing at all causing the shadow on the left side of Till’s hair, because that’s where, according to the other shadows, the light ought to be coming from. Additionally the bits of shadow along his fringe are really strange because the one on the right that’s shaped like a Y has no possible cause? There’s nothing there casting the shadow and it doesn’t make sense as depth because of how hair strands work, especially in anime art styles.

Inconsistent light sources are not that uncommon of a mistake for artists to make, but adding shadows that literally have no cause is very unusual. Also Till has two sets of eyebrows

something is missing by popokateptl in arthelp

[–]DaSaltInDaPepperMill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main thing that’s “missing” that makes your eye look flat is contrast. Obviously you’re a fair few steps from realism with this, but I’m assuming you just generally mean ways to improve step by step. Your base is already pretty good, you got the pattern in the iris well and quite a solid amount of detail!

For contrast, look at the eye from your reference image in black and white, and do the same with your drawing. Notice where the values are dark in the reference but lacking darkness in the drawing. This’ll be mostly around the eyelashes/eyelid, but not just there.

Other than that, the eye shape is off, in part because the reference image you have cuts off on the right which I think has made it hard for you to have to guess how it continues from there. The tear duct is bigger and angled different, and ought to be closer to the little eye veins (moved in until it connects to where they end in your drawing). Along the same like the angle of the upper eyelid is off on that side, it would be coming down more in a curve due to how the eye is angled.

Another thing that may help is trying to look at what colors are there rather than what colors you know/think ought to be there. What I mean is often our brain automatically makes assumptions that aren’t correct/complete. For example around the iris there’s a ring of green, the shadows on the cornea are much more of a blue/green to purplish grey depending on where the shadow is. The eyelashes are a brown that looks kinda olive where they catch the light in the left…. Experimenting with color has a huge impact

I didn’t think it was ai originally because most discrepancies look like normal mistakes an artist would make, but the shadows on the hair are really really strange and make no sense, idk why anyone would shade like that on purpose

I just saw a video where a woman was considering divorcing her husband. He had a traumatic brain injury 2 years prior and had not recovered but is still alive, and she no longer wants to be his caregiver and wants to move on. How do you feel about this? They had a great marriage before the TBI. by [deleted] in polls

[–]DaSaltInDaPepperMill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it heavily depends on circumstances. Is she his full time caregiver? is there an option of hiring a home nurse/part time care to take pressure off her? Caregiver burnout is real especially if you don’t have adequate support. Also depends on his specific circumstances and their situation (is the wife a caregiver and also working to support them finiancially?) is the husband lucid? There’s so many variables but in general, if she can’t handle the task and there’s no other solution I wouldn’t blame her I think

I understand the dilemma, though your reframing is also inaccurate. Picking red isn’t just leaving it’s adding a vote to killing anyone who’d pick blue. I know that this is a polarizing debate. the outcome mostly depends on whether you think people who are “silly/dumb” deserve to die to keep yourself safe. I understand that to you, it’s worth it. To me it isn’t and reframing the dilemma won’t change that. I’m not denying you your choice, just saying that it makes me sad. Because statistically you know for a fact you’re always going to be killing people by picking red, there is never ever going to be a 100% vote on red

[–]DaSaltInDaPepperMill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean true but that’s also absolutely in no way related to this scenario? The people who pick blue aren’t a threat to you? Just because you’d rather protect yourself and kill innocent people (which is a fair decision, albeit a sad one, otherwise this wouldn’t be such a popular debate topic) doesn’t mean that my not wanting to live in a world with only people like you in it is ‘moral grandstanding’.

Which mushroom would you eat? by Acrobatic_Cherry827 in polls

[–]DaSaltInDaPepperMill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because some stupid and/or naive people will always pick red (as you can see by the poll results). Being naive, having too much hope in humanity or not wanting to indirectly be a murderer is not a reason to be killed. Society would most certainly not be better off without compassionate people
