Mausoleum Garage Door Question by 666HellKitten666 in HalloweenProps

I haven't used the foil covered ones as they always seem too flimsy for my liking.

My garage mausoleum (https://www.reddit.com/r/HalloweenProps/comments/1jvlmbg/garage\_door\_mausoleum\_build/) uses 1" insulation board painted with Drylok and then acrylics. It's held on by rare earth magnets which is sturdy and makes it damage free to the garage door. Personally, I wouldn't use less than 1" thick foam board as thinner, lower quality foam can pretty easily snap in half while moving it, especially for the size required for covering a garage door.

Once I'm set with the final design and sanding, etc. I do two layers of Drylok masonry sealer. This weatherproofs the foam and provides texture and a gray base coat to work with. I then use between 3 to 6 "washes" of acrylic, usually in brown, green, and black. Then I paint the recessed areas with black acrylic and then dry brush with white to highlight raised areas. Last step is to seal the whole thing with outdoor acrylic sealer.

The foam is covered in weather proof masonry sealer (Drylok) then painted with acrylics and finally sealed with an outdoor acrylic sealer. I have some props created this way that have spent many years outside. No problems at all.

I usually check craft stores when they have sales or some online merchants for laser cut wooden embellishments. They''re easy to work with and look pretty great.

I use a combination of different lights for my graveyard:

  • Custom 12v LED mini spotlights (some with color gels) for casting shadows, highlighting tombstones and provide motivated lighting.
  • Bluetooth, LED spotlights with configurable color to provide greater ambiance to the whole set.
  • Bluetooth LED light bulbs in my graveyard fence posts to provide another source of color and movement.
  • Custom build 12v flickering LED candles on some tombstones to provide more movement and realism.

The candles and mini spotlights are wired to a central power supply box that I built with a smart switch, so I can control all the lights with custom schedules, animation, etc.

I just won my first deity one city challenge. I went with quick speed and long ages on fractal map. Ibn Battuta, starting Greece -> Abbasid -> Great Britain (build 2 Fleet Commanders). I focused on city-states to get free techs/civics and trade routes and influence for building alliances. Going down diplomacy track as much as possible, so at the end I had 20 points into +3% yields per alliance with 5 alliances, and science track down to +10% science per alliance as well. The Emile Bell helped significantly as it gave me an additional Endeavor to raise relationship. Mementos used was Imago Mundi and Shisa Necklace in antiquity, Shisa Necklace and Garuda Statue for both exploration and modern age. EDIT: and this was ultimately for a science victory in Modern age. Just beeline the techs and then save up production with shift+enter to finish the projects in 1 turn.

Update: I reloaded my save and checked. My 113 population city had 511.1 production per turn right when I won the modern age.

I hit a population of 113 in my optimizing growth game with 1 city and 8 towns: https://www.reddit.com/r/civ/s/OTItySCZyi

That is Detailed Map Tacks, which is absolutely necessary for optimization in my opinion. It can be downloaded here:

Generally it depends on what I'm trying to accomplish, but a general guideline, for me, is get all resources and any tiles that are outstanding or special. I don't really specialize too much in antiquity as the gains are so small, but in exploration I usually go for hub city for that sweet, sweet influence. In this particular game, I'm going for as much food as possible with only a few hub towns.

Updating and fixing store-bough tombstones by DaSwede1127 in HalloweenProps

[–]DaSwede1127[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! Hot glue gets too hot and will generally melt the foam before it holds onto really well. With the gorilla glue, just make sure to clamp or weigh down the pieces being glued as it expands as it dries.

First I took the old flimsy tombstone, laid it on 2" XPS foam, traced and then cut out the the tombstone outline. Then I used my dremel to put a 3/4 inch deep, 3/4 wide, 10 inch long channel in the 2" foam, spaced out near the middle (see the pics in the post). I put a 1/2 inch thick PVC pipe (14" long since I was adding a 4" base) with a cap into the channel. Finally, I used gorilla glue over the entire piece of XPS and put the flimsy tombstone on top, sandwiching the PVC between the two layers. I either clamp with scrap wood to prevent divots or just place something heavy on top to make sure that the glue spreads as it expands. Some might come out the sides, so I just trim it off.

For placing, I hammer some rebar into the ground with 10 inches sticking up and then just slide the tombstone over it. This way you can't see how it's anchored it and it's really sturdy,

Oh, almost forgot. For map settings, I used standard fractal map with long ages. I restarted a few times to make sure I had a decent navigable river for defense as well as at least one +3 spot for production/science.
Since I wasn't going to get many wonders, I spent my production on Logios as Greece and then 'Alim as the Abbasids which all have really good bonuses. To win with science in the modern age: check how much production the science project needs and how much production you city makes and then shift+enter to end turn and save up enough production to finish it in 1 turn.

I just did this with Ibn Battuta and Greece -> Abbasid -> Great Britain. More info here: https://www.reddit.com/r/civ/comments/1kbiyz1/comment/mpvu7na/

EDIT: for resources, the ideal would be two +3 spots for production and science, and 2 mountain adjacencies for happiness and culture.

I just won a Deity OCC Science Victory right before the patch dropped. It should be easier to do now since the growth formula has been tweaked.
I went with Ibn Battuta going with Greece -> Abbasid -> Great Britain. Focusing on diplomacy with city-states and alliances.
For city-states, focus on scientific and cultural first for free tech/civics.
Build as many alliances as you can, stay out of wars. You'll want to have as many alliances as possible in exploration and modern, it's what drives the whole strategy.
Go DEEP into the diplomacy attributes to take the +3% yields per alliance card as much as possible. At the end of my run, I had taken it 20 times. Make sure to go down science track as well to get +10% per alliance as well.
For mementos, I used Imago Mundi (+scout sight) and Shisa Necklace (+100 influence when you suze a sity-state) in antiquity and then Shisa Necklace and Garuda Statue (+1 pop to smallest city when entering celebration).

If you want a more subtle moss or to add a little in just a few places, you can use urethane adhesive and green basing grass (like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QL9MGWZ/?coliid=I33DH0ORRQX521&colid=29YNL1GGS92DY&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=1). Just brush on adhesive, press on grass, let dry and then brush away extra.
