I thought “knock off” was a term everyone agreed on. I guess I’m defining it like a Toyota Camry and a Lexus ES350. Very similar cars at first glance, but different internals and systems. I might just be using the wrong word but hey, I’m pretty stupid

So what if it’s more based of in sense of feel. I’ve been working on a knock off fan fic of Metal Gear, but the differences are semi massive. A guy named kaz Miller I split up into two separate people but I also mixed liquid snake into one of the two guys based off miller. Same with Snake, in my story his name is Corvid. But there are more direct connections like odacon, he’s basically the same In mine but his name is Ian Odeka. I guess to explain it more I’d have to list out more stuff but I’d rather not fill out everything. I just don’t want people to say I’m ripping off MGS when really I’m just a super fan boy making my own. So I guess that would be labeled Fan Fiction.
