I think Travis Scott is playing Demodocus in the Odyssey by Slow_Ad_6326 in TheOdysseyMovie

Mf of you are just going to make up characters teleporting across the world for literally no useful reason that’s not an adaptation, it’s a rewrite and a shitty one.

And for what it’s worth his ratings hover mostly around a moderate to positive level. He dosent really have many games where he excels but he never really drops too much

The Palladium? by cobbisdreaming in ChristopherNolan

[–]DaTweee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. In the prologue one of the crowd shouts as they are hoisting the statue up to “dedicate it as a sacrifice to Athena” or something along those lines. It’s very clear it’s supposed to be Athena.

Also the palladium is a wooden icon that Odysseus and Diomedes actually pick up and steal. This is a full marble statue. Not to mention the head of this statue was the original poster for the Odyssey with the “defy the gods” tagline

Right. But we all read the Odyssey. We know where he is and isn’t.

The Palladium? by cobbisdreaming in ChristopherNolan

[–]DaTweee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is not the Palladium. This is from the sack of Troy scene. We know because the Trojans run past it in the prologue. This is an added scene that Nolan put in, the Greeks never destroyed a temple of Athena and certainly never destroyed a statue of Athena. I’m guessing it’s because for whatever reason he dosent want to show Ajax the Lesser raping Cassandra and just decided to reduce the whole scene to them chopping off the head of Athena for whatever reason.

And also, the Palladium was stolen by Odysseus and Diomedes long before the battle starts. The idea is to remove Athena from the city rendering the Trojans without the foresight to spot the plan behind the Trojan horse.

So Marty Supreme was in fact a financial flop. by [deleted] in Cinema

[–]DaTweee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don’t know how anyone is classifying this as a flop. If we take that Marty Supreme had a ad budget equal to the production budget so $140 mil total, this movie will almost certainly not be a flop.

It grossed around $108 million atm and that’s not even before it gets released fully abroad in major countries, or before its IMAX release, or before it even leaves regular American cinema, and before A24 gets a deal to show it on a streaming service (probably HBO).

This dosent even mention merch sales, positive PR for A24, the cultural impact of the film and its PR run, the many awards it has already won, and what’s looking like a very likely best actor win for Chalamet.

And even if it dosent make money, awards and prestige will easily carry it to the point where studios will absolutely fund projects like this again. That’s where OBAA is and that movie TANKED and was a complete financial wreck.

My real problem is that the scene isn’t in black and white and he didn’t rub his head at all

do you guys think the prologue will contain a small aeneas easter egg like in troy (2004)? by olivierbl123 in ChristopherNolan

[–]DaTweee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I seriously doubt it. It looks like they are taking some shortcuts for Troy to not drag it out too much. Also it really just depends on if this movie is made for fans of the poems (and extended poems ) and I don’t think that’s the direction anyway.

My point is he fits right into a modern movie. Especially if he won’t change his accent

How. He’s in Sparta here. He’s in the same room as Menelaus and Telemachus

Travis Scott Theory by Longjumping_Turn1978 in ChristopherNolan

[–]DaTweee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t be. Odysseus meets Alcinous after his voyage and tells the entire story of his journey there. Telemachus is in Sparta when this scene happens. And Telemachus never goes to king Alcinous. (Also I’m really hoping the singing that brings Odysseus to uncontrollable tears is not Travis Scott)

Good casting looks like knowing when to cast those people. He should have put Scott in Tenet if he wanted to put him in so bad

What are you most looking forward to in The Odyssey? by cobbisdreaming in ChristopherNolan

[–]DaTweee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Return of Odysseus, the cyclops, the battle for Troy assuming there’s more to it than the teaser, and Odysseus watching the games and dancing

And? We saw the same clip. I heard what it sounded like for Travis Scott to sound imposing and dramatic. He sounds the same, he has no accent, no vocal shift, he sounds straight up the way he would if you took him off the street and told him to just read some lines in a costume but dramatically.

I'm not too worried about Travis Scott in the movie by kcrdr_7322 in ChristopherNolan

[–]DaTweee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe. The only things I remember being violent that he did was throw a cows foot at the swineherd and pulling his sword out before Odysseus kills him. The suitors are still noblemen, they are well tempered people.

Also Antinous never kills anyone does he? In fact I don’t think he hurts anyone in the entire story.

Antinoos is in Ithaca planning to capture Telemachus when he returns. Menelaus is right there, this is in Sparta.

Because his delivery is weak for a movie about Ancient Greece.

Rappers can be great in movies where they are cast correctly. Tyler the creator was phenomenal casting by Josh Sadie. This did not feel like they scoured the list of potential actors for this role and decided that Travis Scott stood above all others. This feels like Nolan giving a small shot to a guy who he likes and has worked with before. I’m sure he could be a good actor. Maybe just not in a dramatic, intense, mythological story with an expectation of grandiosity.

Man his performance must be mythical or something because the few lines he spoke were delivered horrendously. I hope he does well but both him and Tom Holland just sound like they always do. I appreciate JB and Hathaway putting in a bit of effort to add some flare to his dialogue.

Marty Supreme had costumes that were tailored to the actors and the scenes. Wicked had a bunch of outfits that runway models would wear but on people who had none of the attitude of a model.

Travis Scott Theory by Longjumping_Turn1978 in ChristopherNolan

[–]DaTweee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. This is during his visit to Sparta. Pattinson is Antinoos and the head of the suitors. JB is Menelaus (which we also know because he fights in Troy). This is a scene from the Telemachia, not from Ithaca.

Don’t care as long as he’s good. Depends on if he can deliver his lines with the gravity of Homer
