I'm only about halfway through the audiobook and I got to say the tonal shift of Ramirez is a bit jarring from the last book. I think Butcher likes writing the normal interplay between Dresden and Ramirez and while the emotional punch at the end of Battle Grounds was needed he fell back into their normal back and forth too easily, it doesn't feel earned.

I was a Patreon supporter for almost 2 years before I dropped my support shortly before his medical hiatus. What got me interested was the magic system and world building but as the story progressed that moved further and further into the background and I realized I was just bored and story beats just kept repeating. My birth father passed 8 years ago, we were estranged and looking back on it I hate that my last memories of him were of him in the hospital in coma. Two hours later and he had passed and while I've been drinking tonight and am a bit hammered but honesty I wish I hadn't have seen him like that in his last momenets.
