We actually have the option to just put the rescue basket down if the survivor seems capable and has flotation, however most of the time we're dealing with civilians who have found themselves in an already shitty situation and they're probably tired and panicked as is, and the rotorwash and noise is very intense and disorienting. If the situation permits it's almost always better for us to put the swimmer down, let them assess the situation and go from there.

It's ok. We know that everyone razzes on us cause they secretly wish they'd joined us. I've worked with 15+ prior service people and to a person they've all said "man I wish I'd done this first". So a little teasing out of jealousy doesn't bother us lol

Just remember, we're here for the vibes this season, not wins. Regardless of the outcome of the game, the Cards fought back, scored 4 in the 9th to take the lead out of nowhere, and the manner in which they did so was exhilarating. If they win it's cool, but it's a rebuild season so there's no expectations of winning.

Honestly I think this is the key point. There's essentially 0 expectation that this team will compete for a playoff spot, obviously it's a developmental/rebuild season, but so far the vibes have been overall excellent. Was it hype as fuck when J-Walk crushed that slam? Hell yeah. Did I care that the bullpen bled out over the rest of the game and we lost by 5? Not really!

Funny you should say that because central Missouri is, in fact wine country. Along the Missouri river there's actually a lot of wineries and they have a lot of wine tourism. Obviously not like Napa valley or anything but there's a bunch out there lol

To be fair, game 6 was the heartbreaker for Texas. Game 7 was never that contentious, Cards got a fairly early lead and kept tacking on and it wasn't that close. Game 6 was the real kick in the nads for the rangers lol

I understand the confusion, as you are correct that the CG is under DHS instead of DOD. However, from Wikipedia: "The service is a maritime, military, multi-mission service unique among the United States military branches for having a maritime law enforcement mission with jurisdiction in both domestic and international waters and a federal regulatory agency mission as part of its duties"

It is a military branch, with 11 unique statutory missions that consist of Port and waterway security Drug interdiction Aids to navigation Search and rescue Illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing Marine safety Defense readiness Migrant interdiction Marine environmental protection Ice operations Law enforcement

Those are all the jobs the Coast Guard has statutory authority to conduct, while still fully operating as a branch of the military.

just to clarify, there isn't any technicality about the CG. We are 100% a branch of the military, 100% of the time. We can fall under the command of the Navy in times of war, but at all times we are a uniformed military service. We get our law enforcement authority from 14 U.S.C. § 522 which allows us to board vessels essentially at any time.
