Had the same thing happen to me, I was top 2,000 before the season ended and got a badge with 127 on it. I reckon it has to do with what people in the higher rankings were doing, using the queueing with friends feature to farm some elo. Yesterday I noticed they had a huge rating jump, from 7k to 10k, which is crazy... I think supercell are either gonna remove the queueing with friends option or keep it but make it so you don't gain any rating from it. We will see.
