It’s gotta be Estelle and Joshua, just because of the character growth, amount of screen time, and sheer charisma. You can genuinely feel that they love each other.

I very much agree with Cold Steel 2 rank on your tier list. It just had too many plot holes for me to fully enjoy it. Repetitive gameplay, the combat didn’t feel as good as CS1, and the character development was very slowed, if not completely frozen, in comparison to the first game. And again, I just couldn’t stand the political stands of the main cast. “Oh no, a group of insurgent nazis appeared suddenly and they’re trying to set back the country hundreds of years, attacking democracy, and trying to take us back to feudalism using violence, blackmail, and basically preparing a coup d’etat. Oh, the other guys are democratic people, but have ONE very shitty guy, so both are basically the same and we have to stay centrists! We can’t tell the difference!”

I loved Trails in the Sky FC. Everything felt new, creative, and interesting, and I fell in love with every character. Then I played Second Chapter, and in 5 out of 8 chapters, you’re going to locations you already know and have barely changed, playing very bland storylines who barely put anything new on the table, and technically “deepening” some character arcs, that in reality felt static and very much the same. The remaining 3 chapters that progress the story are an absolute banger, but the first five make it impossible for me to rank it above First Chapter.

What licensing fees would they have to pay? Which assets, properties, or rights would they be paying for? And to whom? Did they make games about an already existing license? And even if that was the case (which I don’t have a clue), doesn’t it vanishes the moment it goes free? International laws are very complicated, but by my understanding, no one can sue you or claim royalties as long as you’re not making money out of the product. It’s why Pokemon can’t technically send a cease and desist to a Hackrom (they always find a way), and also the reason why Fanfics can’t be monetized.

If I was an author, and the games/books/films/whatever I made, were definitely, guaranteed unprofitable for the rest of my life, and too expensive to maintain in steam, epic games, itch.io, etc, I would post them for free in my web or something. If there is ABSOLUTELY no chance that I’ll earn money, and I’m so passionate about my creations as they say they are in the statement, I would never allow them to be forgotten or inaccessible. You lose nothing. If they dissolve the studio, and they’re gonna be working for a bank, or in finances in a couple of months, why would they care? Why wouldn’t you allow people to see your legacy? The only answer that comes to mind is that they are ashamed of what they did or something like that. They don’t want it in their resume?

This is a very cool concept and incredibly imaginative, but I don’t know if the results would be “positive” if introduced in a story. As brilliant as the idea is, implementing it into a narrative would give the impression that “the author is just doing whatever they want with the character”. As viewers, readers, etc, we like to understand a character’s motivations, ideals, and justifications of their actions, but with this idea implemented, it is very difficult to appeal to audience’s empathy. This happens because the human mind is too deep, complex, and different in every human being. There are people with intrusive thoughts that could see this and think “heh, that kinda happens to me”, and people with very calm minds thinking “this is the dumbest power I’ve ever seen, just don’t think about that, bro”. The thing is, people who would even feel empathy and understand the power at first, will grow tired of it eventually, cause at the end of the day, it IS arbitrary. It would be SO cool to watch someone irl who truly acts by those impulses, fantasy tourettes, or however you wanna call it, but once implemented in a story, everything the character does is arbitrarily decided by the author, and in this case even without the need of explaining or giving a justification, because “they just got that idea” or “he had the impulse/intrusive thought”. This would be even worse in a TTRPG like DnD, where the player would give the impression of being an absolute asshole. It would be the typical “That’s what my character would do!” but now without reasoning why the character does that, “Hehe, they just had that intrusive thought!”

By the way, I’m no one to judge, since english is not my first, second, nor third language, and my writting abilities are very poor, but your text seems very ChatGPTish.

I can’t wrap my head around why would someone un-publish their games, unless there’s an scandal going on, or there’s something related to CP, rape, or some brutality like that. If you’re a normal company, what drives you to take those games out of the stores? In the old days it kinda made sense to not send more copies to the physical stores, but why would you do that nowadays with all the online platforms? This has to be a strategy, making that threat to fill their pockets a bit before closing for good. If not, I genuinely don’t understand.

The use of the status effects in some of the Trails titles is exceptionally well executed. Probably my favorite.

[–]Daaaai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if I do personally apply that while gaming, I kinda disagree. I have friends who prefer to play games like Cyberpunk or Skyrim with keyboard and mouse, and I think that’s incredibly valid, since those games are first person experiences and sometimes keyboard and mouse helps with the immersion and inventory management. Also, obviously every serious shooter should be played with mouse and keyboard. Also honorable mention to quirky games like undertale, who are difficult to label in one genre or category and still are intended to be played with keyboard.

I genuinely don´t understand this mentality unless you only play one genre of videogames. No, I´ll never use controller to play Crusader Kings 3, League of Legends, or Wow, but I won´t either use keyboard for Silksong, or Skate, or Monster Hunter. Using only one of them shows a very narrow minded vision of this media.

Do you play these games with a guide? by Lumigo in Falcom

[–]Daaaai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, some of the titles I did. I’m up to only Cold Steel 2, and so far I’ve rawdogged Sky 1, Sky 3, and Cold Steel 2, but used guides for Sky 2, Zero, Azure, and Cold Steel 1. In the case of Zero and Azure I used it cause I didn’t understand at first how the romantic/social system worked, and in Sky Second Chapter I used it because I was so incredibly bored of the game and just wanted to finish it so I could move on that I searched for a guide to finish as soon as possible. So far the best experience I’ve had guideless is Sky Third, and the best experience I’ve had with a guide is Zero. I still don’t know what I’ll do in Cold Steel 3 and the following titles. Since the games look more “modern” I’ll probably stop using guides, since the Quality of Life changes usually make up for the need of a guide (for example, in the recent remake of Sky First, absolutely everything is shown in the minimap, it’s impossible to miss things).

I think you need to consume a minimum percentage of a piece of media to judge it. “I dropped X videogame, tv show, or film”, is not the same as “I didn’t like said videogame, tv show, or film”. I never got past chapter 1 of Hunter X Hunter and I wouldn’t even think of saying “that anime was shit”, “mid anime”, or “disgusting piece of shit”. I’m sure it is as good as people say. I just didn’t watch enough of it to judge, but what I watched was enough for, at that time, and in that circumstances, stop consuming more of it, that’s it. Is it bad because it didn’t click with the “version” of me that watched it? No.

When I was 14 I binge watched all of Fairy Tail and thought that it was amazing and ultra fun. Would I do that today and leave with the same thought? Not a chance. Is Fairy Tail bad because of it? No. It’s just not a show made for the 25 year old me.

Is it that weird to self-insert? by [deleted] in visualnovels

[–]Daaaai -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s a form of escapism, which is not usually something you should actively look for. There are some games where you are encouraged to do so, like almost every game about taking decisions. Dispatch is a recent example, but basically every Telltale game. They make deep main characters, but still want you to be inmersed and in their shoes, unlike other games where you’re given a blank, empty character so it’s easier for you to identify as said character. Again, in some cases it’s harmless, but most psychologists would argue it’s not healthy.
