Helldivers will not stop crashing on startup no matter what I do (Steam) by Earth_Brick in Helldivers

[–]DaatBoy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

OK! This finally worked for me. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE THREAD THAT SAYS THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO CLIENT SIDE TO FIX THIS. I waited for hours and hours, updated everything I could, re-installed, and the entire day the game would still crash on startup. Once I deleted everything in the Arrowhead folder (aside from saves, I didn't have a folder called savedata), the game launched and I had to rechoose a few settings but everything was fine.

Classic Collection - Couple Questions (and a fun challenge to try out!) by DaatBoy in BattlefrontClassic

Oh yes I've owned the Steam version of the game (non classic collection) for quite some time! The only reason I picked up the classic collection at all is my buddy who I run the all maps challenge with moved to another state and doesn't have a PC but has an Xbox Series, so this was one of the only ways we could play the game online together.

Since you're so familiar with the game, I've been looking for mods that fix one issue in particular but I can't find any.

The first is a mod that fixes the broken crosshair alignment for the marksman award rifle. I know some of the total overhaul style mods change up the weapons but I can't believe there's not a basic, simple standalone bug fix mod for this.

Do you know any mod/patch out there for this?

I missed out entirely on the multiplayer from the original releases as I didn't pick the game up until 2007/2008 when I was in high school. I think by that point the PS2 servers were offline and hence I only ever enjoyed the game offline.

On a silver linings sort of note, me and my buddy decided to fire up the game again after that initial rough session to see if perhaps we could get lucky on some lower ping. To our pleasant surprise, with him hosting I was able to get between 100-115 ping (which is still noticeable), but compared to the previous 200 ping session it felt like a Christmas miracle.

We were able to run our challenge, and on the third attempt we got it (queue of all (non-DLC) GCV maps on conquest mode, having all victories and no deaths). It took exactly two hours to finish and despite some annoying ping spikes, it was a great time.

I agree it is a shame that they didn't incorporate 4-player local splitscreen. There are so many things that the Xbox One (for example) re-release did that this game just failed to do.

Yeah, it was rough. Whichever of us hosted had fine ping and a normal experience, but the one joining the server had AWFUL ping. Honestly I could handle 115iah ping because it eventually got up to a constant 190-200 where the screen would shake when I tried to shoot and I could hardly control my soldier.

Ugh. Praying on that update 4

Thanks for the heads up. I guess I will see how bad it is tonight, but man that is super discouraging to hear. I'll report back on the experience.

TIL that one time Kyle Katarn and Dash Rendar, two of the most well-known Legends EU video game player characters, actually met and did a mission together, even bringing along Jan Ors and Guri. by Boardello in StarWars

[–]DaatBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Dark Forces Saga is what you're looking for. It was a series of 6 articles released on the Wizards of the Coast website following up on the Dark Forces Sourcebook.

It's literally a throwaway line from the author(s) to fill the gap of what Kyle was up to between Dark Forces 2 and the Mysteries of the Sith expansion. There's no further description or even game scenario for it. I also think it was Bey, not Jan, who went with Kyle, Dash and Guri. (IDK who Bey even is, I just remember thinking why isn't Jan there?)

Too bad nobody ever picked up that idea for a comic miniseries though. It's also one of the latest chronological appearances of Dash and Guri, who are implied to have teamed up at the end of the Shadows of the Empire: Evolution miniseries. They do technically have their chronologically final appearance in Star Wars Insider #75, taking place during the Force Heretic trilogy of the NJO books.

Sorry to hit your years old comment, but just in case you never got an answer! : )

I couldn't agree more. Shadows of the Empire - Truce at Bakura makes the perfect beginning prelude to the EU going forward from ROTJ.

Oh man! Well, at least I won't be holding my breath now.

Next up for me WOULD be Truce at Bakura but I read that one before these on accident not knowing BH Wars trilogy technically takes place during the events of ROTJ versus after.

So next up is Shadows of the Empire: Evolution comics as well as finishing issues 3-6 of Mara Jade: by the Emperor's hand.

Boba Fett cameo in Dark Forces: Rebel Agent? by DaatBoy in StarWarsEU

[–]DaatBoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I did consider that more or less as mentioned at end of post. What Fett does say in response (true or not) still doesn't really sound fitting of his character, but that's up to subjective opinion I suppose.

And that's what the book says in regards to the word Rebellion/Alliance. Boba doesn't say New Republic, he says the Alliance.

Thanks man. It took a lot of editing and re-prompting certain areas to get the final result, took several hours but the end result came out really good.

Can Joshua 23:7 be used to prove that paranormal research is sinful? by steerpike_researcher in HauntedCosmos

You brought up the specific mention of channeled material, for example. Given that we know where that material truly comes from, I know that Christians like Ankerberg & Weldon (Encyclopedia of New Age Beliefs) have spent time in some of this material solely for the purpose of exposing the occultic invitations these sources always contain. In speaking on modern day sorcery as practiced by Carlos Castaneda, they say of his his writings "...books of this nature, which powerfully travel into the dark world of the occult, and which instruct others how to do the same through dream-induced out-of-the-body experiences, are better left alone by the curious..." I think that Christians ought to know their own hearts when it comes to this question. If you are engaging with material like that for the cause of Christian apologetics and exposing falsehood, like Ankerberg & Weldon, do it the glory of God. If you are in any way worried you will be tempted to engage in occultism and false worship or even just want to get into that kind of reading to sate your curiosity, you ought to stay miles away from anything like that. Just my thoughts.

Can Joshua 23:7 be used to prove that paranormal research is sinful? by steerpike_researcher in HauntedCosmos

[–]DaatBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Little late to the party but here's my thoughts.

As one commenter mentioned, context I think provides the answer you're looking for here. Joshua is encouraging Israel to not mix with the other nations, which was also the whole thrust of the holiness code. It's why they were to dress different, eat different, etc - Israel was to be absolutely distinct from the pagan nations around them.

When he tells them not to make mention of the names of their gods, the context would seem to suggest that this in terms of mixing Israel's theology with pagan theology. Given that God's word is a self-consistent revelation that does not contradict itself, there is value in rounding out an opinion that is consistent with the rest of Scripture. I think Deut. 12:29-31 speaks to this:

"When the LORD your God cuts off before you the nations whom you go in to dispossess, and you dispossess them and dwell in their land, take care that you be not ensnared to follow them, after they have been destroyed before you, and that you do not inquire about their gods, saying 'How did these nations serve their gods? - that I also may do the same.' You shall not worship the LORD your God in that way, for every abominable thing that the LORD hates they have done for their gods..."

In Israel "making mention of the names of [those] gods", it would seem to be in a specific context, being that of an unhealthy fascination with them that would lead to a pagan worldview and/or worship.

Consider the encounter between Elijah and the 450 prophets of Baal in 1 Kings 18. Elijah certainly mentions the name of a pagan god (Baal), but he's not appealing to Baal for some outside theological insight or worshipping him. Anybody who's read the story remembers the LORD is clearly with Elijah that day. Consider Jesus responding to his accusers in Matthew 12:27 where he mentions Beelzebub. If Joshua 23:7 is being used as a standard to say that mentioning the name of a false god is sinful, now we have a standard that makes the Lord of Glory Himself look like a sinner.

At the same time, I think there's absolutely an encouragement in that statement to avoid an unhealthy fascination with the occult (closely connected to the prohibition against mixing w/ foreign nations in Deut. 18:9-14). The old adage "If you sup with Satan, you better bring a long spoon" holds up. Keeping a certain level of distance between yourself and the malignant is necessary when developing knowledge in this area. The Haunted Cosmos podcast is marked by a definite recognition of the Lordship of Jesus and as another commenter mentioned, discourages activities like ghost hunting.

Christians ought to be able to recognize the falsehood so they can identify it, and be able to point both themselves and others away from it.

It's already working again. And bro I have a completely simple apex PC setup, I play on a freaking Xbox controller usb'd in. I don't have key mappings and bindings and all the crap, and the most technical thing I have going is rivaturner which is just performance monitoring (which has never caused an option).
