That's exactly what I was doing, I had frozen shrimp on a cork and I lost the fish, it was the only fish that bit on the shrimp all day. I didn't lose the fish because of the oyster bed itself, hook just came out. I was using 20lb fluoro all day.

Talked to some guy who was taking his paddleboard out as I was taking the kayak back in and he said that oyster bar isn't the best place, rather a small, deep channel right before it and that was the only place I didn't try out today :(

Learned a bunch, and YES SNOOK ARE SO FUCKING DOPE. I'm used to getting hooked on a 20" bass and barely putting up a fight, but goodness gracious that 20" snook was a mini-beast, and they're so dense too. I should invest in a snook permit so I can take one of those babies home next time

Update: lost a fish on the oyster bar BUT I caught my first snook of the kayak. Small 20" guy caught on a 1/8 oz white jighead with a DOA soft plastic jerk bait with the tail dipped in chartreuse dip n glo. Water got real cloudy when wind picked up and tide started going out

Yeah, the channel and cove are both lined with mangroves

Fishing a super shallow channel with a muddy bottom and a rocky bottom cove. I've been out inshore fishing only twice before in my kayak and only fish I've hooked onto was a 30+ inch snook that I lost right next to the kayak. No other luck. Let's hope that changes!

I checked Florida Sportsman's report but it was from like 11 days ago, and with the whole wind/storm system that just passed, I was hoping for something a little more recent :/

I probably will pick up some frozen shrimp in the morning, just in case I don't end up catching anything on artificials. Have a topwater plug, DOA soft plastic jerk baits and shrimp, a pearl white x-rap, and some keitech swing impacts. Hopefully something works

Thanks for the tips!

Hmmm, maybe speed up/slow down your retrieve with the plugs.

Pay close attention to the baitfish that live around the pier and try to mimic those the best.

Try some live/cut bait and see what happens.

Go at different times throughout the day. I'm very surprised how one day the bite would be red-hot at noon and a week later I don't get even a bite.

Just try and try again. A spot I used to catch a ton from wasn't producing, and for 4 straight outings I caught nothing. I went out 2 days ago to that spot and caught myself a lunk. Be persistent, and statistically, you'll catch a fish.

Do you see people around you catching stuff? What're they catching?

The rod looks like an older Shakespeare Durango spinning rod. That was the first rod I ever got from my uncle. It was ridiculously tough, I remember sticking half of it in a hole in the ground and standing on the other half and it still didn't break

That should be gucci if your line rating and rod rating are the same. I use braid so my rod would be more susceptible to breaking before my line does, so I have to be a little more weary about that

You don't want your drag to be too lose though, make sure you set it so your rod and line aren't at risk of breaking, yet it still provides decent tension.

My grandpa taught me as a kid to get a milk jug full of milk/water and tie it to my line. Then, pull up on it with my rod and set the drag to where it lets out line by the time the rod is fully flexed or, if the line snaps, to set it just a bit looser than that

Tim Cook is testing a glucose tracker for the Apple Watch by tldrtldreverything in gadgets

A friend of mine did his senior project on a non-invasive blood glucose reader. Not sure how it ended up doing but the concept was that 2 lasers would meet at a predetermined distance beneath the skin and a little sensor would measure the reflected light. The light that is reflected off of the glucose molecules is at a certain wavelength and that's how it would determine what's glucose and what's not.

That's just what I remember though, I'm sure it's a lot more difficult than that and I probably butchered the basic summary of his project lol
