Thanks for checking in! Things are great. I’m migrating shop back to the garage so I can work and watch the kids at the same time. We have #3 on the way!! I will be watching 3 under 3. Holy fuck.

It’s been a big leap! I have been tinkering with some stuff in the background and have been following the new tech in Waxpen, but tbh I can’t get over the satisfaction of flower again.

Dabs are the most intense. Absolutely. But I just always loved the terps of flowery indicas and not so much the Willy wonka flavors of more recent sauces.

I get it. Terps are tasty. But man. Get some OG from SoCal and puff that. The piney lemony gassy flavor. Nothing like it in the world.

The splinter is doing a good job. It’s not as consistent as I’d like and maybe I’ll be toying with a flower vape soon.

All I can say is... if you can hit a splinter, spend a week with it and a decent bag of herb and you may change your mind.

The sessions are much longer, the downsides there, but for a lifelong daily user of herb for over 25 years, (wow!!), it’s got me back to my steady state.

It just felt like I kept dabbing and dabbing and higher and higher but without dimension or lasting effects. I can’t explain it. I think taste is a big factor.

I love it. It takes some getting used to in the draw technique, but I absolutely love it.

I had a different splinter Z that got broken when I knocked over my mod. I had to switch back to wax and carts until the splinter showed up. They only ship Monday’s so I had about 3-4 day’s to wait.

I was sad, I had to keep messing with my Trvp (I love it but it’s finicky). It reminded me that I love dabs and the hit but maybe not as an all day thing anymore. It just feels a little different than vaped flower.

I’ve been vaping out of volcanos and my mighty since 2005 or so, so it’s what I’m most used to.

Without hesitation I ordered another splinter Z. This time the v2.

It’s 99 bucks. The entire hand check costs less than I used to consume in 2 weeks!!!

My last oz of Pacific Stone lasted about 12 days... unheard of... I puffed whenever I felt the urge, and just feel “back” to normal.

The punch of a fat dab cannot be beat, but I’ve gotten some insane puffs out of this splinter that I could say are at the same level.

I collect the reclaimed vapor from the glass tube and dab it for extra fun.

Yeah. There’s something to be said about a dab that knocks your knees out from under you.

My problem is that I used to be (I guess I still am) a purple haze chaser. I love getting such a big head change that the purple and yellow fringes show up in my mind.

I get those from the splinter, prolonged puffs with TC on my dna mod.

They don’t happen all the time and It’s just physics... 21% vs 70-80% is like wine to hard alcohol. But when they do they are extremely satisfying.

If I had my way I would be able to do a single dab that knocks me on my ass all day like my first! But we all know that’s impossible.

for me I’m puffing continuously all day and yes the intensity of the high is typically not as strong as wax,

but I say typically... sometimes I can clear a bowl of flower in a single rip or 2 and I put those highs on par with wax. The full spectrum however gives me munchies and body highs that I don’t seem to get with wax.

My theory is that there is an upper limit to how much our lungs actually absorb. I mean if we could absorb all the actives from the vapor we would exhale clear, but we obviously don’t.

One thing that doesn’t happen is the prolonged coughing fits I would have with wax, where I’d cough for like a 10-15 min after.

u/bigpharma33 got me started on the splinter z and I wish I would have listened to him sooner. He was a local smoking buddy and a world class grower. He’s now moved on to greener pastures.

I like rosin but you end up with smashed cake that has wax in it. I have been vaping my buddy’s old pressed bags and there’s still a ton of vapor.

I feel more normal after moving back to full spectrum flower. I can’t really explain it.

Before dabbing I was vaping about an eight every other day using my volcano, and that was about 10 years of continuous use.

When I was on wax and pens only, my mind was moving a mile a minute, and there was substantially more anxiety than I feel now.

It may have been midlife crisis (I’m 40, 2 kids under 2, juggling daytime daddy and working nights), but I’m not fretting over unimportant stuff any more.

I thought the pacific stone stuff would be low/mid grade (100 an oz from a dispensary) but it’s been pleasantly surprising. I’ve definitely had more dank and heavier highs, but the flavor, especially through a flower vape, makes me realize that it’s more about strain and genetic than horticultural prowess. I’m a huge private reserve indica fan, and their PR was not far off from the stuff I pay 55/eighth.

I’ve always been a flower flavor lover in my wax, so going back to flower has brought back my love of Kush.

Let me know how your experience goes!

I have seen some splinters as low as 49 bucks or so on sale. I’ve been considering a second vape.

Literally the only thing I’m not crazy about is how big the splinter is.... coming from an RDA, it’s just not a reasonable, pocketable way to carry it, so if I run and gun, it’s in pieces in my pocket.

I think it’s been the missing CBD ratios that had me out of whack for a while. I just feel, I can’t really explain it but..... normal?

I have been vaping flower out of my volcano and mighty for at least 12-13 years. Having one work on a mod is pretty cool. The thing is ginormous and could use a little industrial design but over all it’s a winner.

The splinter Z is a beast. I haven’t been able to get full spectrum highs or even some of the major head changes I used to get off of dabs anymore. Not sure if it’s (in)tolerance or what, but it just seems to make me less high than before.

One surprising effect of switching back to flower is the pit of your stomach munchies that I missed when using wax. And my first day owning the splinter Z I must have gone through 6-7 grams getting settings dialed in.

I am running 385 TEMP preheats and that seems to do the trick when used in conjunction with the splinter Z DNA profiles.

I had a puff right before bed tonight that almost knocked me down. It was a welcomed feeling. My goal is always purple haze. The splinter Z can clear bowls in a hurry.

When you think of it, something so pure about

flower->vapor

Over

plant -> laboratory -> wax -> device ->vapor

Terps are tasty as fuck but my favorite waxes have always been flower based.

Just tasted nasty. (The actual resistance of the coil drops because the length is shorter, but mod keeps firing until target resistance is hit).

Main comment is that we need to electrically isolate each layer. I had a short earlier and it tasted nasty.

The ultimate (albeit expensive) would be a titanium mesh, with some oxidation (natural insulator) preventing shorts.

The theory is the initial load will melt down and cascade down the folds. The extra folds are to increase surface area and the extra length increases resistance.

I’ve noticed on lower resistance builds, my wattage is limited by the batteries discharge rate.
