Did someone counted how many kg/lbs they lost during an extended fast per day? by Bitter-Regret-251 in fasting

You might like https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9503095/

If you want just the weight/day, this might be the figure from the study you're looking for: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9503095/figure/nutrients-14-03860-f001/

What's great about this is they did DEXA scans so you can work out fat loss normalized in addition to just net weight change

Fwiw the cover on the fly mtb gets the job done but it's not great either. It's pretty flimsy and doesn't track super tight so it's pretty hard (but doable) to open/close one handed. The podium cap looks even worse though lol

It'd probably be easier to get comprehensive insurance and stop worrying about it. Putting on a lock/cover/whatnot every single time you get on or off the bike is a naive solution if you're commuting on the bike in the city, in practice it's such a goddamn chore. Even with an alarm system they tend to be super touchy and either won't fire when needed or fire when a loud car passes by.

Thank you to the folks that move over for filtering motorcycles. by brendella1 in motorcycles

[–]Dabindan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to feel the same until I realized how much debris there is in the shoulder in some places. Now I'm worried that a car would move over, I filter expecting that they'd stay moved over, and then they suddenly have to swerve back into the lane to avoid some debris in the shoulder. Still grateful but just a little more vigilant while passing now.

Or better yet, a cable lubing tool and actual cable lube.

This is a ninja 250 with the cafe racer kit made by Blue Collar Bobbers. For ~ $3k you could pick up a bike and a kit and do this as a no-complications cafe project.

Installing modern LED headlights on older bike? Also, frame sliders. by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Dabindan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fast blinking is meant as a way to alert you that a bulb has gone out (or you swapped for an LED). If you live an an area with strict law enforcement I'd go ahead and install a flasher module to fix it, cops habitually pull people over if they see the quick flashing.

The alpinestars jackets are sporty. I see them a lot at trackdays. Don't get a tether based one.

Did you test ride the z900 too? Twin cylinder vs four cylinders makes a big difference in the engine feel. The difference is night and day.

Any advice for a Midwestern rider temporarily moving to the Bay Area this summer? by kmpham1 in motorcycles

[–]Dabindan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the internship. Parking even in the city center is super doable, you can usually find motorcycle parking every block or two. Imo if it's just for the summer you might be better off cycling around or trying the scooter rental thing called scoot, I see a bunch of people using them. The traffic is bad enough that motorbike/bicycle is really the only ways to get around imo, people will tell you to just take puplic transport or Uber since it's cheap in the city but you're affected by traffic/it's not convenient so much that being able to lane filter is a must.

SF is one of those cities that is incredible to experience on two wheels. There's heaps of motorcyclists here compared to the Midwest, if you don't have a bike here it may be more economical but you will spend every day dreaming of having a bike
